The Hardy Clinic Family,

With mixed emotions, we announce the closure of a portion of The Hardy Clinic's clinical department, effective September 15th, 2024. This decision was not made lightly and has been a challenging process. We will continue to provide supervision for interns, counselors, therapists, and social workers. Beginning in spring 2025, we will offer a new offering of CEUs and training for the community. However, we will no longer provide counseling services or be paneled with insurance companies. Check out our bio for two articles that highlight the challenges we and other mental health companies have encountered during these difficult times.

Is it FAMILY OVER EVERYTHING? This common phrase means that the bond you share with your family is stronger than any other bond and your loyalty to your family is greater than your loyalty to anyone else. 

This is often used to say that a person's family is more important than another person's relationships or needs, which can easily lead to trauma and abuse. 

But apparently, we’re actually using the saying incorrectly. According to the VOA Learning English program, “ blood is thicker than water" actually means that bloodshed on the battlefield creates stronger ties than the water of the womb does, or family ties. 

So would you still say that blood is thicker than water the way we’ve heard it or have you experienced more genuine connections with those people who chose to love you, blood or not?

So growing up Black means that you have to learn early who and what to trust. However that same discernment also tends to bring about prejudices and judgment which keeps us divided.
