I am “coaching” more & more of my friends about strength training via DMs & texting.
The conversation I have on repeat goes something like this post by Danny M.
Once you understand that you don’t “tone” muscle - that you either build it, maintain it, or lose it - I think it becomes easier to understand how to exercise for your goals. You look “toned” by losing body fat, which allows you to see your muscle.
If you’re not strength training 2-3 times a week, your cardio/HIIT/Pilates/yoga likely won’t change your physique all that much, even while you feel fitter & stronger. If you just want to lose a few pounds & feel better, those classes absolutely will do it for you!
However, “TONED” is a specific physique goal. Your nutrition & training need to be specific to achieve it.
My advice?
LIFT.HEAVY.SH*T.
DON’T EAT LIKE AN AS***LE.
DON’T DRINK YOUR CALORIES.
Simplistic but actually pretty accurate 😂😂😂😂
I put up 2 versions of Jess with this post. Both of these collages are pics of me from yesterday. Gym Jess is kinda strong & lean, which some associate with looking masculine. I get that’s a stereotype, & it keeps many women from lifting weights. I wanted to show that Regular Jess wears regular clothes & looks “toned” but (I think) still looks like a woman 😂😂
