Say hello to our April Employee of the Month, Brigitte Covington!

Brigitte is one of our RN case managers and has been a part of the SouthernCare Atmore family since December 2021. She has been a nurse for 30 years, working in LTC, acute care, and management. Brigitte transitioned to hospice because she wanted to get back to direct patient care and remember why she became a nurse. When asked why hospice, Brigitte said, "I find hospice to be very fulfilling and rewarding. To be able to get to know your patients and their families so intimately and be a part of a very special journey that you are helping them navigate is truly something special."

Brigitte, also known by her co-workers as "Presh," is truly that precious. She has a heart of gold and shines bright when it comes to caring for her patients. Brigitte is the definition of "calm and collected" and handles all tasks thrown her way with ease. We are so blessed to have her as part of our team and for all of her hard work!

Congrats to our March Employee of the Month, one of our 2 amazing Chaplains, Mr. Ricky Tedder. Ricky has been a part of SouthernCare Atmore since April 2016. He is compassionate and caring, and he keeps us on our toes with all the jokes. Ricky is a huge asset to our team and a part of our family; we would be lost without him. He goes above and beyond every day. When asked why hospice, Ricky said, "I chose to be a hospice chaplain because I saw the need for patients to have a spiritual peace during the last stage of life". SouthernCare Atmore loves our chaplain and is so lucky to have you!

Say hello to our January Employee of the Month, Meagan Tice!

Meagan is our patient care manager here at SouthernCare Atmore. She joined our big family back in June of 2024 and has not stopped shining ever since. Meagan has been a nurse for 7 years, starting her hospice career back in 2022. When asked why hospice, she said, "Honest truth, I thought I was going to be a peds nurse. God had different plans, and as I was working on a Cardiac Step-down unit, I knew that was not my fit. I fell in love with end-of-life care while in nursing school and had applied for hospice months before I was hired, but I needed some experience. I remember one of my managers telling me when I put my notice in that he thought hospice would be a better fit because I talked too much to my patients and families. And he was correct!" Meagan has the biggest and kindest heart. She lights up every room she enters.

When we asked what her favorite part of hospice is, she said, "My favorite part about hospice besides getting to love on people is that this is the closest we can get to heaven on this side. I always tell my folks that if you want to see God, go to the bedside of someone who is actively passing. Our bodies are miraculous. Being with someone in their last days to minutes is a beautiful blessing. How precious it is to be next to someone on earth who is actively leaving this journey to their eternal journey. We are looking at them while they are looking at Jesus." We are so thankful for her.
