Yesterday, District 9 hosted the first-ever Spiritual First Aid workshop in Oklahoma at KTC in Durant. The training was led by Community Engagement and Health Planning Manager Lesa Curry and supported by team members, welcoming "helpers" throughout the region to come learn and grow.

Spiritual First Aid prepares participants with tools and resources to support others during times of crisis. It focuses on recognizing spiritual distress, listening with compassion, and helping connect people to needed support and resources.

Moments of crisis can affect more than just physical and mental health, they can shake a person’s sense of hope, purpose, and connection. Trainings like this help strengthen our community to better care for one another when it matters most.

We are excited to offer this workshop in Oklahoma and grateful to everyone who joined us!

Behind every thriving school is someone quietly holding it all together. This School Nurse Day, we’re celebrating the everyday heroes who do so much more than bandage scraped knees.

School nurses are caregivers, advocates, problem-solvers, and a steady presence for students when they need it most. They notice what others might miss. They support both physical and mental health. They keep students in class, ready to learn.

Maternal mental health disorders are the number one complication of pregnancy and childbirth. It’s not rare. It’s not shameful. But too often, they go undiagnosed, untreated, and unsupported. We need to do better for moms, for families, for future generations. Let’s make maternal mental health a priority.

Your safety is our top priority as tornado cleanup efforts continue. One crucial step is ensuring your tetanus shot is up to date.

Tetanus is a serious infection caused by bacteria found in soil, dust and debris. It can enter the body through cuts or puncture wounds. You may need a booster if it's been more than 10 years since your last tetanus shot—or more than 5 years if you have a deep cut or puncture.

To stay safe while cleaning up:
✅ Wear gloves, sturdy shoes and long sleeves to protect yourself.
✅ Seek medical care for any cuts or wounds.

Today, our health department staff are on the ground in Caney offering no-cost tetanus shots to anyone in need but you can also grab one from your local health department at any time.
