Sturdy Memorial Hospital is proud to continue serving as a Baby Safe Haven, a designated location where a parent can legally and safely surrender a newborn who is seven days old or younger, without any questions asked. A new Baby Safe Haven sign was recently installed outside the Emergency Department at the hospital to help raise awareness of this important resource for parents in crisis.

The Baby Safe Haven Act was created to protect vulnerable newborns and provide a safe, compassionate alternative for parents who may feel overwhelmed or afraid. This new sign helps make this lifesaving option more visible to the community and reinforces our role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of all families. It strengthens awareness of a safe path for newborns and promotes compassionate options for parents who are in crisis.

January is National Blood Donor Month, and Sturdy Health is proud to stand with our community in recognizing the lifesaving power of blood donation.

Recently, Brian Patel, MD, Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs, Medical Director & Chief Quality Officer at Sturdy Health, joined local elected officials, community leaders, and others to underscore the critical role donors play in keeping blood supplies strong and sustainable.

Sturdy Health recently held its Junior Volunteer Orientation and welcomed 24 new volunteers.

These students will be lending their time and energy across Sturdy Health, supporting staff, assisting with projects, and helping create a warm and welcoming experience for patients and visitors.

Meet Regina Duarte, a Patient Transporter in Imaging at Sturdy Health.

Since joining Sturdy Health, Regina has become a friendly, steady presence throughout the hospital, helping patients feel supported as they move through their care. She enjoys connecting with patients and working closely with nurses and staff across departments and says making people feel comfortable and cared for is the most rewarding part of her work.

That sense of encouragement and teamwork is something Regina brings with her every day — creating a positive experience for patients when it matters most.
