Our adult medical music therapy team was so excited to meet with Camila Casaw, MA, MT-BC, who provides music therapy for cancer patients at Memorial Sloan Kettering (MSK) in NYC. Thank you, Camila, for graciously sharing with us about your experiences of providing music therapy for MSK’s groundbreaking research study on the benefits of music therapy for cancer-related anxiety (https://www.mskcc.org/news/quieting-cancer-anxiety-with-music-therapy-at-msk). Congratulations on your incredible, meaningful work!

Fun fact: Camila and Missy were peers alongside one another in the same cohort and internship seminar group in their Music Therapy Master’s Program at NYU!

Join us as we say a heartfelt farewell to our incredible music therapy intern, Alexis 💜🎶

Throughout her internship, Alexis brought passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. In supporting patients and their families, she consistently went above and beyond, always stepping in with compassion, creativity, and a can-do spirit.

It’s clear Alexis is on the path to becoming an outstanding music therapist, and we couldn’t be more proud. Wishing her all the best in the next chapter, and good luck with her CBMT exam. We can't wait to see where her talent and heart take her next!

Sending a huge THANK YOU to two incredible guest artists who brought their hearts and music to Sophie's Place this week!

First, we were honored to welcome Lizz Shine, a Sacramento-based singer-songwriter whose healing presence filled the space with light. As a local artist and proud trans woman, Lizz shared not only her music but also her authenticity, inspiring patients, families, and staff alike. We hope to see you again soon!

We were also thrilled to have Shawn Peter from The Ghost Town Rebellion back for a second time! Shawn’s talent and big heart made for another unforgettable performance.

Thank you both for creating such a meaningful, joy-filled experience for everyone at Sophie’s Place. Your music makes a difference, and we are so grateful for you! 💛🎶

This World Music Therapy Week, we’re excited to announce our collaboration with Fair Oaks Behavioral Health and the opening of our second new music therapy clinic space! Located in Fair Oaks, this new clinic is now actively open with sessions available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, led by our Lead Music Therapist, Missy Lees, MA, MT-BC.
