Welcome to Sierra Friends of Tibet Auburn

We are a group of volunteers who help organize and host Tibetan cultural events in Auburn and the surrounding area. Most notable are the visits by the Tibetan Buddhist Monks who share their core message of love, patience and compassion. By sharing the many aspects of Tibetan culture we hope help cultivate a connection between the Tibetan community and our own. Whether it is the Sacred Arts of Tibet which include Sand Mandalas and Thanka paintings, the ritual blessings, healings and empowerments, the philosophical lectures on a host of pertinent topics or their traditional Tibetan Buddhist teachings we believe there is something beneficial for most anyone. Contact us for information on volunteering.

Gratitude is living in grace. Living in grace means all is well inside, even when externally a tempest is brewing. We tend to forget that we are alive, and how precious that is! We tend to forget that we have a precious human rebirth, and how precious that is! Yes, there are a myriad of problems. Yet, we are alive in a precious human rebirth! Big picture. Big picture. Big picture. When external circumstances are extremely challenging, we tend to get lost in the weeds and fail to see the big picture. There is so much to be grateful for. Remind yourself of that again and again. At the end of the day, remember not only the 10 – 15% of things that went wrong. Remember also the other 85 – 90% of things that went well. Even congratulate yourself for these. It is perfectly okay. But avoid overdoing and morphing into arrogance. Be grateful of the little things. The pitter patter of the drops of rain. The blossoming of the flowers and trees. The cheerful chirping of the birds. All the incredibly courageous acts of kindness being performed each minute around the world, that doesn’t make the news as it doesn’t sell products. Be grateful for those around you. Be grateful of who you are, even if at times you don’t like yourself. Emaho!

MESSAGE

I wholeheartedly endorse the powerful appeal for peace made by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, during his Palm Sunday Mass. His call for the laying down of arms and the renunciation of violence resonated profoundly with me, as it speaks to the very essence of what all major religions teach.

Indeed, whether we look to Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Hinduism, Judaism or any of the world's great spiritual traditions, the message is fundamentally the same: love, compassion, tolerance, and self-discipline. Violence finds no true home in any of these teachings. History has shown us time and again that violence only begets more violence and is never a lasting foundation for peace.

An enduring resolution to conflict, including the ones we see in the Middle East or between Russia and Ukraine, must be rooted in dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect — approached with the understanding that, at the deepest level, we are all brothers and sisters.

I urge for and pray that the violence and conflicts may soon come to an end.

🌸 May our homes be places of peace, where harsh words soften before they are spoken and love flows more freely than judgment. When we walk through our doors, may we consciously step into loving awareness, remembering that our families, our partners, and our children deserve the same gentleness and presence we so often share with the world.

May you and all beings be well, happy and at peace. 🙏
