We're recognizing National Women Physicians Day today, a chance to honor the pioneering women who have shaped the future of medicine. This day pays tribute to Dr. Elizabeth Blackwell, the first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree in 1849—a milestone she achieved despite overwhelming barriers. Her courage and determination continue to inspire generations of women in healthcare.

At Amedisys, we’re grateful for our exceptional women physicians who lead with compassion, expertise, and vision:

Dr. Amy Moss – SVP, Hospice Clinical Operations
Dr. Abi Katz – VP, Executive Medical Director
Dr. Aye Aung – VP, Executive Medical Director

Their leadership strengthens our mission every day. Thank you to all women in medicine for lighting the way forward.

This month, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of Black Americans who have shaped our communities and our healthcare system.

We’re especially inspired by pioneers like Mary Eliza Mahoney, the first Black professionally trained nurse in the United States. Her dedication to compassionate, patient‑centered care continues to influence the work we do every day in home health and hospice.

As we support patients and families in their most meaningful moments, we’re reminded that progress in healthcare is built on the courage and leadership of those who came before us.

“Beth is an amazing aide. She is always quick to inform me of a patients change in status or any issue that needs to be addressed. She’s has done this work for such a long time and truly has the hospice heart. I couldn’t do my job the right way without her.”
Beth thank you for always making our patients smile as much as they make you smile. 💚

Meet Brittney, written by one of our nurses:
“Brittney is a kind, warm-hearted, and quick witted CNA who’s always ready to lend a hand. It’s easy to see how deeply she cares for her patients- always making sure they feel comfortable, respected, and truly cared for. The work CNAs do often goes unseen, but it’s absolutely essential. Brittney, along with our all our CNAs are such a crucial part of our team.”

Day 6 of celebrating National CNA week 6/12-6/18 and recognizing our CNA’s and their “why” hospice.
Meet Pam written by our nurse:
“Pam has the biggest heart and is always rooting for the underdog. She never judges and will go to the ends of the earth to make sure someone has what they need. I have worked with many people in my life but never anyone like Pam. Even when she is tired or not feeling good she treats each and every patient the way she would want to be treated. When we think heart of hospice Pan should come to mind. Pam does not do it for the recognition, she does it because she believes everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and love, no matter where they came from.”
Thank you Pam 💚

Meet Wendy:
“Being a hospice CNA, is not just what you do but who you are. Being able to make someone’s day just a little better is very important to me. The smiles I receive when I arrive make me feel that we are very important to these patients that we are seeing. Making them look better makes them feel better. This job has been a journey for all involved. I am truly blessed to be a part of it.”

Thank you Wendy for everything that you do for our patients. You are truly meant for this work. I’ve personally seen those smiles and how patients’ light right up when you walk in the room, especially when you bring your beauty bag. 💚

Day 3 of National CNA Week 6/22-6/18. We are celebrating our CNA’s and their “why” hospice:
Meet Kelley:
“I have been a CNA for many years and was excited to join the beacon team as I knew some of the folks that worked there. They really impressed me. Once I started being a hospice aide, I knew this was exactly what I was supposed to be doing. I especially love getting to know my patients and being able to spend time with them. Not just caring for them physically, but also emotionally. This work while it is very fun, is also very serious to me. I want my patients to have the end of life they wish for. I hope some day we can look at our loved ones and celebrate the end-of-life like we do newborns coming into the world. I have been blessed by some of the best experiences and some of these patients remain with me long after they’re gone. A little piece of them becomes a little piece of me. This job is the best job I’ve ever had and this team I work with makes me proud to be a part of them.”
Thank YOU Kelley for being a part of this team and for taking the time to bring peace at the end of life. 💚
