“These skills are extremely important to have in any scenario,” Roelke said. “You never know what could happen, where you might be at the right time, to apply these skills to make an impact on not only that person, but the people around them.”

While switching shifts with another lifeguard during a swim meet at Walkersville High School on Jan. 28, senior Abigail Roelke, 18, noticed something was off on the pool deck.

It takes an average of 8 minutes for an ambulance to arrive on scene in the US.

Each minute that CPR and use of an AED are delayed for a person in cardiac arrest, their chance for survival is reduced by 7- 10%. Starting CPR immediately and use of an AED can make a lifesaving difference in the moments that matter.

Take a CPR class today and learn how you can save a life.

Some day the life you save could be your own.
