Doula Raina

Doula Raina Birth doula living in S Puget Sound. I am your best friend in labor offering a calming, uplifting and Your birth should make you feel empowered and supported.

My point of view as a Doula lies in the belief that ALL women in ALL walks of life deserve to have the birth experience that feels healthy and safe. I am particularly passionate about assisting women who are high-risk, in a hospital setting. Often times, women don't think they can have a natural, intervention-free birth when deemed "high risk": YOU CAN! I also have experience and a special bond to helping women who have experienced trauma and abuse.

Attended a beautiful home birth tonight! My third to last birth before I step away from birth work permanently. Birthing people are stronger and more able than they ever think they are in the moment. I will miss this.

Absolutely beautiful!

And in the early morning, just as the sun was about to rise, she met her baby. She reached down and pulled her wet, vernix-covered body up onto her own. They hadn't even fully seen each other yet, but it didn't matter. You don't even have to see your baby to know how deeply you already love them.

No daughter and no licking pacifiers! So, 2 points. What about you? I’ve also had the pleasure of being puked, peed and pooped on all within seconds of one another 😂

Many people (even my own family) don’t quite understand the differences between midwives and doulas. This is nice. I will however add that most midwives do not only focus on the physicality of support. We also do emotional love, education, planning. and comfort/position changes. Midwives can also take care of babies for their first month. AND we don’t deliver anything. Birthers do.

This is an excellent list for preparing for nursing!

This is an excellent list for preparing for nursing!

Expecting parents & those with little babes nursing: breastfeeding is work. For some, babies latch on quickly without an issue, for others it may take a while to get a good and comfortable latch. Preparing before hand, a little patience (because you AND the baby are new to this) and a phone number to a local lactation specialist (or your midwife) is a great start.

Not all parents choose to nurse, but if you do- here’s a great starter pack. Collect these items before birth & place them in a comfortable place where you and your baby will spend a lot of time. The basket or trolley is great because you can quickly move these items next to your rocking chair, bed or couch.

Lastly, give yourself time (at least 2 weeks initially) and ask for guidance immediately if there’s pain that doesn’t resolve. I’d recommend holding off on pacifiers as well until your little has a good latch. Ni**le confusion is real.

Remember, fed is best. However you get food into your baby’s belly that results in wet/dirty diapers is OK! 💞

Wow! This isn’t good at all!

Wow! This isn’t good at all!

Internal documents from major baby food manufacturers show they tested and used ingredients with high levels of arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury in the baby food they sold to parents, according to a congressional investigation.

I ask everyone when we fill out their birth plan, "Who do you visualize catching your baby?" Her list went like this:
