If you’ve lost someone to su***de and have found peace in your healing journey, your experience is powerful. Consider becoming a LOSS Team volunteer—your voice, your empathy, your survival story can make all the difference for someone in their darkest moment. Survivors paired with mental health professionals offer hope, support, and resources after su***de loss—often meeting within 2–48 hours to deliver comfort when it’s needed most. Nebraska’s LOSS Teams are always welcoming new survivor volunteers—no prior professional experience required, just a heart for helping others heal.

Hey everyone, let’s talk about something important as we head into warmer weather: West Nile Virus.

As temperatures rise, mosquitoes become more active, increasing the risk of West Nile Virus transmission. This virus is spread through mosquito bites and, while many people may not feel symptoms, it can lead to serious illness in some cases.

Here are a few tips to protect yourself and your loved ones:

1. Use insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, or oil of lemon eucalyptus.
2. Wear long sleeves and pants, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
3. Remove standing water around your home to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.
4. Keep screens on windows and doors to prevent mosquitoes from entering your home.

Awareness and prevention are key in staying safe. Let's all take the necessary precautions and enjoy a healthy, mosquito-free summer ahead!

We’re proud to introduce a life-saving resource in our community: Narcan kiosks.

In partnership with our local hospitals, three kiosks are now available at ER entrances in Auburn, Falls City, and Nebraska City providing free and easy access to naloxone, a medication that can reverse an opioid overdose and save lives.

We’re also expanding this effort, with an additional kiosk coming to the Tecumseh hospital at the end of this month.

No questions asked. No cost. Just help when it’s needed most.

Together, we can make our community safer and support those in need. đź’ś

Lead can harm a young child’s health and development without any obvious signs. Even low levels of lead exposure can affect learning, behavior, growth, and hearing. That’s why routine lead testing is so important it helps catch exposure early and protects your child’s future.

Don’t skip this simple but important check. If your child is in the recommended age range, talk to your healthcare provider about getting them tested.

A quick test today can make a lifelong difference.

💧 If your home uses a private well, regular water testing is essential. Private wells aren’t regulated, so testing is the only way to know your water is safe.

SEDHD now offers water test kits specifically for private wells to help protect your family’s health.

Stress is something everyone experiences, but it doesn’t look the same for everyone. Work stress, financial stress, family responsibilities, and even everyday pressures can take a toll on both our mental and physical health. Too much stress over time can lead to headaches, trouble sleeping, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed.

Taking small steps to manage stress can make a big difference. Try going for a walk, taking a few deep breaths, talking with someone you trust, or setting aside a few minutes each day to do something you enjoy.

Caring for your mind is just as important as caring for your body.
