Enjoying an “all-aboard” Epicurean outing to the historic Delaware River waterfront in Philly, these residents had much to smile about. Starting with lunch on the Moshulu, next stop was Shane’s Confectionary followed by, what else, 2 scoops of their favorite flavor at Franklin’s Fountain to end the day. And a “full” day it was!

It was a picture-perfect October day for a “purple parade” of residents and staff as we put one foot in the front of the other to support our local Alzheimer’s association chapter with the annual Shannondell Memory Walk . Many thanks to all of you who helped us plan for, stage, walk and raise more than $15,000 this year!

Working in subjective and abstract styles, Kit is also the organizer of the Art Group at MLUC in Devon. “Fall Cocktails” – two words made for each other as a select group of residents will attest to who attended last week’s first seasonal Epicurean event in the Ashcroft clubroom. Mixtures tipped up include a tasty Pear, Ginger & Vanilla Crush, a lively Cranberry Blitz, a Pumpkin Spice (you knew it was coming) Sangria, and last but not least, a Cherry Bourbon Bomb! The winner ... the Cranberry Blitz by a nose, it seems. If you missed the event, don’t worry, both clubhouse bars will be rotating the selections into our weekly drink specials all month. Shannondell staff enjoyed celebrating our Super Bowl champion Eagles opening game against the Dallas Cowboys this past week ... and what a game it turned out to be. Surviving the storm, figuratively and literally, our hometown-fave QB had what has been called his best game ever, leading the team to a 24 – 20 victory. Bring on the Chiefs, and “Fly Eagles, Fly!”

Celebrating the lives of two local writers, our most recent resident day trip included stops at the Mitchener Museum and Highland Farm in nearby Doylestown. Both best-selling author James Mitchener and award-winning lyricist Oscar Hammerstein called Bucks county home ... with Oscar penning most of his famous musicals, including “The Sound of Music” and “Oklahoma!”, at Highland Farm. Old McDonald had an Opening ... and it was fabulous! Regardless of if you grew up on a farm, or are a lifelong city dweller, you’ll want to stop by the Shannondell Art Gallery this month to view how our talented resident artists have been “Cultivating Canvas” for this seasonal show spotlighting rural farm scenes, farm animals, crop-scapes and their own brushstrokes of John Deere green. You’ll find it a “moooving” experience. Just know, the show closes September 4th.

Our theater-loving residents recently enjoyed two very good, but very different theatrical masterpieces. Tony Award-winning “Life of Pi” at the Academy of Music lived up to the magical, immersive hype with an outstanding cast and staging. Also living up to its stellar 40-year horror comedy rock reputation was the macabre musical “Little Shop of Horrors” playing at People’s Light in Malvern. Two day trips. Two matinees. Two great shows!
