Based on best-selling children’s classic by Natalie Babbitt, the musical shares this timeless story of family, loss, love, and everlasting youth with a soaring score, award-winning choreography and costumes. Given that we’re in the “heat of the summer,” it’s probably no surprise which brew came out on top from the recent local craft beer tasting. Described as light and mellow, the Helles style (brewed with German ingredients) lager “Other Robots” was residents’ favorite ... beating West Coast IPA “Fade,” New Zealand style Pilsner “Cloud Piercer,” and another West Coast IPA “Highway Miles” with citrus undertones. “Other Robots” is brewed by https://baldbirdsbrewing.com in Audubon.

Kicking off Monday night’s concert and revving up the house, the West Chester Swing Kings opened with the “Rocky” theme and Eagles fight song. Residents also enjoyed arrangements from Big Band artists like Dorsey and Ellington along with contemporary hits from Nora Jones and even a little Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. A big Booyah to all these talented local musicians!

How can a vineyard tour and tasting not leave smiles all around? Visiting Bishop Estate Winery in nearby Perkasie, a group of residents recently enjoyed a nice selection of wines ... from a crisp Stalemate Chard and elegant Queen Sauvignon Blanc to an earthy BugHouse Merlot and semi-sweet Croc-My-World red blend. Paired with cheese and chocolate, the tasting provided a tasty slice of the local vineyard’s line-up. In the heat of the summer, it’s no surprise the Queen was crowned the winner on this afternoon!

There’s dancing, then there’s “Dancin’ 2025!” As the impressive Shannondell Tappers spotlighted in their recent Performing Arts Theater show, your beat may slow, but you never lose your rhythm. Joining the Tappers on stage was another talented troupe from Dain Dance Studio. As always, moving choreography by our resident instructor Delores McHenry and her former student, now studio head, Jamie Lee Dain.

Our participating “Artists Among Us” and their resident fans enjoyed another exciting opening in the Shannondell Art Gallery this past week. Focusing on works in three dimensions, mediums for this exhibit include paper, wood, fabric, clay, wire and metal, knit, crochet, collage and found objects. As you can see, they, like their art, really rose to the occasion! Be sure to stop by the Gallery, located in the Ashcroft Clubhouse, before the show closes July 17th. Neat show everyone!

Combine professional opera vocalists with Tomasello wine and an elegant 3-course chef-prepared lunch, and you’ve got “Totally Tenors Opera Gala.” Residents raved about this recent afternoon outing to Tomasello Winery in New Jersey. The intimate audience experience alongside Academy of Vocal Arts performers, literally tableside, was totally cool!

The Foundation at Shannondell recently awarded more than $209,000 in scholarships (bringing the historical total close to $1.7MM) to local high school seniors, many who also happen to be part-time Shannondell employees. The Foundation is able to do this thanks to the ongoing generous support of staff, residents, friends and corporate partners of Shannondell. A BIG Standing “O” for Shannondell resident athletes Rob B. and Brian S. who took home m-u-l-t-i-p-l-e medals from their participation in the Montgomery County Senior Games recently. Combining sports, recreation and fellowship, this local competition encourages 50+ YO adults to maintain and improve their physical and mental well-being. A couple of great role models they are ... congrats gentlemen!

As a group outing of almost 40 residents attests to ... true fans never let a little wet weather get in the way of cheering on their Phillies! Enjoying great foul-ball seats at a recent game between Philly and St. Louis, residents enjoyed watching the Phillies take a “close one” (2-1) in the first game of a split double-header. “Let’s go Phillies!”

Our most recent opening in the Shannondell Art Gallery highlights our resident artists’ work inspired by literature. From Twain to Vonnegut to Rowling, the gallery’s walls and display tables cover the fictional field. The fun, though, is guessing the authors and/or books without peeking at the adjacent hang tags. As always, impressive work everyone!
