Not hard to tell it was “Pictures with Santa Day” at Shannondell this past weekend. Festivities included building Gingerbread Houses ... Christmas movies playing in both movie theaters ... and the model trains running non-stop in our Train Room in the Ashcroft clubhouse. The big guy thoroughly enjoyed his
pre-Christmas Day warm-up and, we note, he left making updates in his “Been good, been bad” list. Better be good everyone!

Trimming the “Shannondell Family” trees in both clubhouses is a favorite early December tradition for residents and staff. Thanks to all the ornaments donated by residents over the years, there are many to choose from ... including classics, handmade and hand carved and even a few digital wonders. Regardless, they all add to our festive atmosphere. After all, ‘tis the season!

Our resident woodcarvers never cease to amaze us with boundless talents in turning a block of Tupelo wood into detailed, to scale wildlife, birds and other objects. Their recent shows in both clubhouses are testament to the teachings of their instructor and master carver Richard Snyder, and also the inspiration that just comes with the neighborhood. Really impressive work everyone!

If you haven’t caught the “Pencil Artists Among Us” exhibit in the Shannondell Art Gallery, it’s a must-see before the show closes on December 4th. Pencil art always amazes us ... the detail, the realism, and in our show’s case, the amount of resident talent that resides within our community. Many thanks to artists Joe Dittmar, Greg Gaul, Jim McKeon and Eleanor Ott ... inspiring work, all!

Marines at Shannondell enjoyed gathering to celebrate the USMC 250th Birthday yesterday. The empty seat at the head of the table honors all those who didn’t come home. We’re grateful to all of our resident armed forces veterans for their service on this special day. Thank you for defending our freedom!

MCT’s production of “A Man of No Importance” opens in the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater this evening for a run through the 16th of the month. Set in 1960s Dublin, this evocative and award-winning musical follows the life of Alfie, a bus conductor by day and a community theater impresario by night. Boo! Who? It was, indeed, a haunting happy hour and costume parade last week in both clubhouse living rooms. With witches and vampires, ghosts, scary clowns, superman and wonder woman, emojis galore, card sharks, cowboys and aliens, and our own snow globes from around the world ... what a fun way to end the week/month and celebrate a holiday that everyone claims is for the kids, but we all know better!

Playing to a full house in the Shannondell Performing Arts Theater earlier this week, our “Three Tenors” – Samuel Schlievert, Jim Schubin and Daniel Taylor – brought the house down, once again. Performing a mix of opera arias, Irish songs and Broadway classics, the three – as soloists, duos and a trio – proved why they remain one of our most popular shows. Many thanks to these very talented gents!

Enjoying an “all-aboard” Epicurean outing to the historic Delaware River waterfront in Philly, these residents had much to smile about. Starting with lunch on the Moshulu, next stop was Shane’s Confectionary followed by, what else, 2 scoops of their favorite flavor at Franklin’s Fountain to end the day. And a “full” day it was!
