Meet Dr. Swim!

Tara Swim, MD, is a Cleveland Clinic-trained Interventional Spine physician who joined the practice in 2022. She is a Board-Certified Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physician. Dr. Swim treats various spine conditions, including acute and chronic low back pain, radiculopathies, and sacroiliac joint pain, with physical therapy, non-opioid medications, and injection therapy.

Dr. Swim is an Ohio native, obtaining her bachelor’s degree from Heidelberg University and her medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine. She then moved to Michigan to complete both her internship and residency at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, MI, serving as chief resident in her last year. She returned to Ohio to complete a fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic, focusing on non-operative treatment of neck and back pain, including education, therapy, non-opioid medications, and injection-based therapies.

As a physiatrist, her primary goal is to improve patients’ level of function. She realizes that every patient is an individual and hopes to provide her patients with individualized and compassionate care.

When not treating patients, Dr. Swim enjoys spending time with her husband and young son. She is an avid runner, an exuberant but novice golfer, an animal lover, and always an Ohio State Buckeye!

Meet Dr. Clapp!

Dr. John Clapp is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon who has been practicing in Augusta since 2012. He specializes in adult spinal surgery, treating all conditions of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine, with a special interest in less invasive or minimally invasive approaches.

Dr. Clapp trained with both orthopaedic surgeons and neurosurgeons. He completed a fellowship in adult spinal surgery through the Harvard Combined Fellowship program at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. While there, he was appointed to the faculty of Harvard Medical School and was involved in teaching residents and medical students. He has also authored several book chapters on adult spinal surgery.

Dr. Clapp is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a member of the North American Spine Society, and the Georgia Orthopaedic Society. He currently serves as the Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

Dr. Clapp believes in a patient-centered approach to treating spinal conditions. This involves shared decision-making with the patient through education about the diagnosis and an evidence-based approach to solving their unique problem. All options, both non-surgical and surgical, are considered, and the patient is directly involved in choosing the treatment plan that best achieves their desired outcome.

We are very lucky to have him!
