Meet Dr. Richard Pope!
Before joining the GCO family, Colonel (ret.) Pope served over 27 years in the United States Army in both enlisted and officer ranks. His military career included some of the most demanding assignments in orthopedic surgery, serving as a battalion surgeon with the Ranger Regiment, a Forward Surgical Team Commander, and Deputy Commander for Clinical Services at a Spanish military hospital in Afghanistan. He cared for injured troops on the front lines in both Iraq and Afghanistan, giving him unparalleled experience treating complex orthopedic injuries.
He retired in 2013 as Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia, and spent seven years teaching orthopedic surgery residents there as well.
Dr. Pope earned his medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, completed his orthopedic residency at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, and his fellowship in hand surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is double board-certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons in both orthopedics and hand surgery.
Today, Dr. Pope specializes in general orthopedics and upper extremity/hand surgery and sees patients at our Augusta and Waynesboro offices. We are honored to have him on our team.
