Back to school can be exciting, but it can also bring a lot of stress — for both kids and parents. New routines, homework, sports, and social pressures can feel overwhelming.

Here are a few ways you can help your child (and yourself) through those high-stress moments:

🌱 Pause Together – Take a few deep breaths with your child. Modeling calm helps them feel grounded.

🗣️ Validate Their Feelings – Instead of jumping to “fix it,” try: “I see this feels really hard for you right now.”

📅 Keep Routines Simple – Predictability creates safety. Try to keep mornings and evenings as calm and consistent as possible.

💖 Encourage Breaks – Remind them it’s okay to step away, move their body, or do something fun when stress builds.

Remember, you don’t have to have all the answers. Your presence, patience, and compassion are often exactly what your child needs most.

✨ Here’s to a school year filled with growth, resilience, and connection.

Motherhood is not about perfection — it’s about love, presence, and the quiet moments that tell our children they are safe, valued, and deeply loved.

If you’ve ever questioned if you’re “enough,” this is your gentle reminder: you are. You always have been. 💛

That’s why I created Truly Her Mama: Affirmations for the Heart of a Mother, a book filled with daily reminders to help you embrace your worth, trust your intuition, and parent from a place of love and confidence.

“If it’s so bad… why is it so hard to leave?”
You’re not weak. You’re not “addicted” to toxicity.
You may be caught in a trauma bond.

A trauma bond forms when abuse is paired with affection, apologies, or reward—causing you to feel emotionally stuck and conflicted.

🌀 Why it’s so hard to leave:

Intermittent reinforcement: You never know when they’ll be kind again—so you keep hoping.

Gaslighting: You’re questioning your own reality.

Shame: You wonder how you ended up here, and what it says about you.

Isolation: They’ve become your world—and you’ve been pulled away from others.

But here’s the truth:
✨ Love doesn’t require you to stay where you’re being hurt.
✨ Healing begins when you choose you.

Start small:
📓 Journal what’s real
🧠 Learn the patterns
🧍‍♀️ Reach out for support

“If I don’t tell her everything, she feels betrayed.”
“When I set a boundary, she shuts down or disappears.”

Sometimes what feels like deep friendship is actually enmeshment—when emotional boundaries get so blurred that you start to lose yourself.

You may feel:

Responsible for their emotions

Anxious if you’re not constantly available

Guilty for spending time with others

Afraid to set boundaries

Enmeshed friendships often start off feeling intensely close—but the closeness can become controlling, and the bond conditional.

👥 Healthy friendship allows:

Space to grow individually

Freedom to say “no”

Encouragement of other relationships

Respect for emotional boundaries

You can love someone and still have limits.
You deserve connection that doesn’t cost you your peace.

Mental Health Awareness Month is a reminder, not a one-time event. Here’s how you can start nurturing your mental wellness today:

🧘🏾‍♀️ 1. Check in with yourself daily
Ask: “How am I really feeling today?” Naming your emotions is the first step toward caring for them.

🗂️ 2. Set a boundary that protects your peace
Whether it’s saying no, taking a break, or limiting draining conversations — one small boundary can have a big impact.

📝 3. Create a ‘Mental Health First Aid Kit’
Include: calming music, affirmations, grounding tools, a therapist’s contact, a trusted friend’s number, etc.

🧠 4. Replace self-judgment with curiosity
Instead of “What’s wrong with me?” try “What might I need right now?”

🧡 5. Reach out – you’re not meant to carry everything alone
Talking to a therapist can help you process, reset, and feel less overwhelmed.

🌸 You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to start somewhere.

Let’s talk about it—really talk about it.

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet stigma and misinformation continue to hold people back from seeking support. ⛔

Here are a few common myths we need to leave behind:

❌ “Therapy is only for people with serious problems.”✅ Truth: Therapy is for anyone seeking growth, support, or a safe place to process life.

❌ “If I take medication, it means I’m weak.”✅ Truth: Taking medication for your mental health is no different than taking insulin for diabetes.

❌ “Talking about mental health makes people uncomfortable, so it’s better to stay quiet.”✅ Truth: Silence fuels stigma. Speaking up opens doors to healing.

Mental health struggles are human struggles. Let’s challenge the shame and rewrite the narrative—together.

Before April ends, take a moment to check in with your body and mind.

Stress often speaks through our bodies—and one of the key messengers is cortisol, your body’s main stress hormone. While helpful in short bursts, chronic cortisol elevation can take a toll over time.

🧠 Not sure if stress is lingering? Here are a few signs your body might be holding onto it:

🔸 Tight shoulders or clenched jaw🔸 Frequent headaches or stomach issues🔸 Trouble sleeping or feeling tired even after rest🔸 Racing thoughts or irritability🔸 Cravings for sugar or salty foods🔸 Feeling “on edge” or easily overwhelmed

✨ Your body is wise. These signals aren’t weakness—they’re messages.

As Stress Awareness Month comes to a close, we invite you to: 🫶🏽 Pause.💭 Breathe deeply.📝 Ask: How am I really doing? What does my body need right now?

You don’t have to wait until you’re burned out to begin healing. We’re here to support you—today and every day.

🌿 March is Women’s History Month! 🌿

At Truly Her Counseling, we honor the strength, resilience, and power of every woman. Too often, we feel like we should carry the world on our shoulders, like we should be everything to everyone—Superwoman, holding it all together without breaking.

But true strength isn’t about never falling—it’s about allowing ourselves to rest, to be vulnerable, to exist as we are, without apology.

This month, let’s honor the women who came before us, the women we are today, and the women we are becoming. Let’s rewrite the narrative that tells us we have to do it all alone.

🌸 You don’t have to carry everything.
🌸 You don’t have to prove your worth.
🌸 You are enough—right now, as you are.

Root yourself in your truth. Stand tall in your worth. You are, and always have been, more than enough. 💜✨

Grief is complicated, messy, and deeply personal. There’s no “right” way to grieve, but there are ways to support yourself through the journey. Here are some ways to process grief in a healthy way:

🌿 Normalize Your Experience
Grief isn’t linear, and no two people experience it the same way. It’s okay to feel sadness, anger, numbness, or even moments of joy. Your feelings are valid.

📝 Express Your Emotions
Journaling, letter-writing, or creative outlets can help externalize emotions that feel too heavy to hold inside.

🧘🏾‍♀️ Take Care of Your Body & Mind
Grief affects both your emotional and physical well-being. Gentle movement, breathwork, and self-care can support your healing.

💭 Honor Your Loss in Meaningful Ways
Keeping traditions, creating memory boxes, or carrying forward lessons from your loved one can help you maintain a connection while moving forward.

🤝 Seek Support & Set Boundaries
Grief can feel isolating, but you don’t have to go through it alone. Surround yourself with those who honor your grief, and set boundaries with those who rush your healing.

✨ Give Yourself Permission to Find Meaning
Healing doesn’t mean forgetting. It means learning how to integrate your loss into your life in a way that allows you to keep going—at your own pace.

The relationship you have with yourself is the foundation for everything else in your life. When you feel lost or disconnected, it’s often because you’ve drifted away from who you truly are. Here’s how to reconnect and fill your cup:

💡 1. Analyze Your Values
Take a moment to reflect on what truly matters to you. What principles guide your decisions? Living in alignment with your values creates a sense of purpose and fulfillment.

💪 2. Recognize Your Strengths
What are your unique gifts and abilities? By acknowledging your strengths, you’ll see yourself as capable, worthy, and whole.

📖 3. Reflect on Your Journey
Think about how far you’ve come. Your challenges, triumphs, and lessons are all part of what makes you you. Celebrate your growth and honor your resilience.

🧘‍♀️ 4. Understand What Fills You Up
What activities, people, or moments make you feel alive and energized? Make time for these regularly—they’re essential to your well-being.

✨ When you take time to reflect on yourself, you gain clarity about who you are and what you need to thrive.

🌟 New Year, Stronger Boundaries 🌟

As we step into a new year, let’s commit to prioritizing our emotional well-being. 💖 Setting healthy boundaries is one of the most powerful ways to protect your peace and create the life you deserve.

🎯 2025 Boundary Goals:
✨ Say “yes” to what aligns with your values and goals.
✨ Say “no” to what drains your energy or peace.
✨ Create space for your needs and self-care.

This year is about growth, healing, and choosing YOU. 🌿 Let’s make 2025 the year of healthy connections, balanced relationships, and inner peace.

💡 Reminder: Setting boundaries is not about pushing people away; it’s about showing yourself the love and respect you deserve.

🌼 Cheers to a fresh start and a healthier YOU! 🌼
