With reproductive rights and rural health care under attack, we're in a critical moment – and Maine Family Planning is rising to meet it.

We've launched "This Critical Moment: The Campaign to Protect Reproductive Freedom in Maine" – a $6.5 million fundraising effort to safeguard reproductive freedom for generations to come.

The campaign focuses on two critical initiatives:
🚐 Mobilize Maine ($1.5 million goal) – To fund staff and deploy Health on Wheels, our mobile medical unit that brings care directly to Mainers who need it most, no matter where they live.
💪 The Maine Legacy Fund ($5 million goal) – To secure the future of reproductive health care in Maine by expanding access, strengthening education, advocating for change, and ensuring that Maine Family Planning stays resilient and independent, regardless of what happens in Washington D.C. or Augusta.

Every dollar donated will be matched, doubling your impact.

For nearly 50 years, we've served Mainers in need of s*xual and reproductive health care. We're not stopping now. Visit mainefamilyplanning.org/thiscriticalmoment to learn more and make your contribution today.

Today is National Rural Health Day, and this year, it carries extra weight.

Recently, Maine Family Planning was forced to end our primary care program after being blocked from receiving Medicaid funding. Hundreds of patients in areas with very few healthcare options lost their primary care doctor overnight.

Rural Maine already faces a healthcare crisis—long travel distances, provider shortages, and limited access to services. However, our s*xual and reproductive healthcare services continue, and our doors remain open. But let's be clear: when politics interferes with healthcare, rural communities are hit the hardest.

On National Rural Health Day, we're reminded why this work matters. Rural Mainers deserve better. They deserve access to comprehensive, affordable healthcare close to home—without political interference.

We won't stop fighting for that vision.

Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance, a day to honor the memory of transgender individuals whose lives were taken by violence and hatred.

As we remember those we've lost, we also reaffirm our commitment to the transgender community. At Maine Family Planning, we strive to create spaces where every person—regardless of gender identity—receives the compassionate, affirming care they deserve.

Remembrance is important. But action matters too. We honor those we've lost by continuing to fight for a world where transgender people are protected, respected, and free to live authentically. 🏳️‍⚧️

“About half of Maine Family Planning's patients are on Medicaid. The organization is no longer reimbursed for their visits.”

NPR’s Selena Simmons-Duffin visited Maine Family Planning clinics to understand how the federal government is pressuring organizations like ours to stop providing abortions, including cutting $2 million in Medicaid funding, 20% of our budget.

We will not stop. Our doors remain open. We will keep fighting for Mainers no matter what.

Maine Family Planning's Board President, Barbara Schneider, wrote to The New York Times in response to today's story on threats to medication abortion access.

It’s not just Planned Parenthood; MFP and another provider in Mass. were impacted by Medicaid cuts. It will become even harder for everyone in the state to get health care, given the shortage of providers in Maine.
