On March 23, 1825, the Marquis de Lafayette arrived in Augusta, Georgia during his tour of United States. This year we celebrate the the 200th Anniversary of his visit. Lafayette was born to the pinnacle of French society yet gave up his comfortable life to fight for a cause — our American cause. He chose to live in hard conditions to fight in a foreign war. As we remember his visit to Augusta and his American tour, we honor his contributions to our struggle for liberty.

Our Story

AGS includes members from a wide range of lineages who all share the passion of learning more about our ancestors. We are an all-volunteer organization. We maintain the Adamson Library that includes books covering not only regarding Augusta and her surrounding areas, but many other counties and states; multiple immigration groups and migration trails; and records from various time periods. We also maintain exclusive family files, loose papers, special collections. Our library is open several times per week. Please check our schedule for a time to visit! We head up several projects to further genealogical research, many of which have been published. We also work with members and the public with special queries.
