Meet Pam Lyon, FNP-C!

Pam joined MaineGeneral’s Allied Health Staff as a family nurse practitioner in February 2026 and sees adult patients at Thayer Internal Medicine in Waterville. Pam is board-certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
She has a background in family practice as well as emergency and urgent care and has devoted her career to working with medically underserved populations.

“I welcome patients from all walks of life and treat all of my patients as I would want my loved ones to be treated,” Pam said about her approach to care.

Originally from Georgia, Pam first visited Maine during a clinic and fell in love with the state. She returned in 2022 and has been living here since.

“I love the people here,” said Pam of why she enjoys living in Maine. “I love the easy access to the outdoors, the natural beauty of the area and the resilience of the population.”

When asked what accomplishment she is most proud of, Pam said, “I am a first-generation college graduate and the only one in my family to pursue and complete a degree. I came from a very impoverished family and have worked hard to obtain an education to help others.”

• She loves animals and has bearded dragons, dogs, fish and more!

Congratulations to Dr. John Cooper III, on being awarded the AWESOME Award! The AWESOME Award recognizes medical staff for providing excellent care.

Dr. Cooper is an emergency medicine physician who treats patients in the emergency departments at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta and the Thayer Center for Health in Waterville. He was nominated by a patient’s family member after witnessing the compassionate care that Dr. Cooper provided.

After arriving at the emergency department, the patient was greeted by Dr. Cooper, a familiar face. He had treated this patient before and both the patient and their family member felt at ease knowing they were in Dr. Cooper’s care.

“Dr. Cooper is not only a doctor, but a very caring and concerned individual who looks out for his patients and his families,” said the family member.

“I cannot begin to tell you the feeling of relief when you know that you have someone who is looking out for the best care possible. I felt very fortunate to be able to explain the symptoms my family member was experiencing and having him listen to the details and including us in every step of the conversation.”

“I cannot stress enough to you how fortunate you are to have such a great doctor in your establishment. Again, the quality of care and compassion he gives to his patients means more than any medicine can cure.”

Congratulations, Dr. Cooper, on your AWESOME Award! Your patients and colleagues appreciate all you do for them and admire your ability to comfort patients during some of their most vulnerable moments.

The Alzheimer’s Care Center in Gardiner recently hosted Sarah Winter from Ultimate Dog Sledding Experience.

Residents and members of The Club learned about the history of dog sledding, the Iditarod in Alaska and Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Race held in Fort Kent. While giving the dogs lots of affection, residents viewed a special video showing off the beauty of the aurora borealis!
