In honor of National Social Work Month, we’d like to recognize a social worker who holds a special place in our hearts. 💙

Frank is a retired Marine who dedicated his post-military career to supporting others as a social worker for Veterans at Togus. Now, we have the honor of caring for him here at MVH–Augusta.

His legacy of service reminds us why our mission matters, and we’re proud to include him in our National Social Work Month observance.

Thank you, Frank, for your service! 🦅

🍀 We’re proud to celebrate National Social Work Month and World Social Work Day on March 17 by recognizing the incredible social workers who support our residents, families, and care teams.

Our social workers play a vital role in advocating for Veterans, supporting families through important transitions, and helping ensure each resident’s voice, dignity, and personal story remain at the center of their care.

Pictured here from left to right are our amazing team members:
Erica Golden, Roberta Doe, Jeremiah Sibley, and Camden Desch, a student intern from St. Joseph’s College and an Army Veteran.

This year’s theme for Social Work Month is “Uplift. Defend. Transform.” — three powerful words that reflect the compassion, advocacy, and dedication our social workers bring to their work every single day.

And since World Social Work Day falls on St. Patrick’s Day this year, we’re so excited to celebrate them we might just have to break out an Irish jig! ☘️💃

Thank you to our social workers for the difference you make in the lives of the Veterans we serve.

🌟👑 We're celebrating Healthcare HR Week!

Healthcare HR Week (March 16–20) is a time to recognize the incredible human resources professionals who help support the people behind the care. From recruiting and onboarding to problem solving and supporting employees every day, HR plays a vital role in helping our teams succeed and ensuring our residents receive the best possible care.

And honestly—if you can’t dress up like royalty during your observance week… when can you? 👑

We’re proud to celebrate the amazing HR team members. Here’s what they shared about what they love most about their work:

💬 Kyla Finck, HR Specialist:
"I enjoy being able to problem solve and help make our employees’ lives easier whenever I can."

💬 Katherine Bratcher, HR Manager:
"What I love most about working in HR in healthcare is supporting the people who dedicate their careers to caring for our veterans every day."

Thank you to our HR professionals for the dedication, compassion, and teamwork. Your work helps make everything we do possible. 💜💙

🎉 Happy Long Term Care Administrator's Week!

Today we’re also excited to give a special welcome to Kim Watson, who joined us as our new Administrator on March 1.

Kim brings extensive experience in skilled nursing leadership and most recently served as the Administrator of a 5-star facility in Brunswick for the past 10 years. We’re thrilled to have her join our team.

Long-term care administrators carry a wide range of responsibilities, often working behind the scenes to ensure everything runs smoothly for residents, families, and staff. From navigating regulations and operational challenges to supporting employees and shaping culture, their leadership plays a critical role in enabling the best possible care outcomes.

Welcome, Kim! We're so glad you're here. 💜💙

✨🐶 On February 17, our halls turned into a runway as we hosted our first Dog Show! Staff and residents’ families were happy to show off their beloved fur-babies, and our residents loved every moment.

A special shout-out goes to Judy, who kicked things off by bravely taking the runway first—dressed as a dog named Spot 🐕💛. We’re grateful for her enthusiasm and spirit.

So much fun, so many happy faces—and by popular demand, the Dog Show will definitely be back!

🐾❤️ Thank you to everyone who participated!

It was a joy to have you with us! Thank you for supporting our Veteran community.

This photo captures something very special—the spouses of the Veterans who live on Freedom Bay. Over time, these women have become a strong and caring support system for one another. They celebrate birthdays and special moments together, and just as importantly, they step in with time, kindness, and companionship when one of their spouses is away.

The small house model has created a space that offers comfort, familiarity, and connection—allowing meaningful relationships like these to grow and flourish. It's a joy to see the bonds these ladies have formed! 🥰💐

Residents and their families are invited!

The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA), and twelve additional veteran-focused organizations will be visiting us next Thursday.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the benefits and resources available to Veterans. You'll get to speak directly with knowledgeable representatives and receive on-the-spot guidance.

Additionally, the VBA will be conducting on-site benefits consultations and may assist eligible Veterans with filing claims that could potentially result in an increased disability rating.

♠️🃏 We hosted our first cribbage tournament last week. It was a full house with eight residents joining in on the fun! After some friendly competition and lots of great hands, Jerry Thibodeau (spouse of a resident) took 1st place, with Helene Boucher earning 2nd place. 🏆👏

Most importantly, everyone who participated had a great time—and by popular request, we’ll be hosting another cribbage tournament next month! ♣️❤️
