This week is Malnutrition Awareness Week. Wellstar is dedicated to preventing malnutrition in hospitalized patients. According to the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition - ASPEN, malnourished patients stay in the hospital 1.9 times longer and are twice as likely to require discharge to a rehab or long-term care facility. Patients at Wellstar Georgia Cancer Center's Radiation Oncology Center have a new way to commemorate their cancer journey—by placing a thumbprint in their cancer color on a new mural. Radiation Oncology Nurse Shannon Williams celebrated the end of her own radiation treatment by placing the first thumbprint on the mural. Hyundai Hope On Wheels recently stopped by Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia to present Wellstar Georgia Cancer Center's Dr. David Munn, a professor of pediatric oncology at Augusta University and Medical College of Georgia, with a $400,000 Scholar Hope Grant. The grant will support Dr. Munn's research in boosting children's immune systems so that immunotherapy drugs that work well in adults can also fight tumors in children.
