🎉 Our holiday season celebrations continued this week with music, treats, and fellowship!

On Wednesday, we welcomed the talented carolers from the Curtis Baptist School Crusaders, followed by a beautiful candlelight concert featuring John Hobbs and Robert Reid.

The festivities carried on Thursday with joyful caroling and delicious cookies and hot chocolate shared by residents and staff.

Yesterday, our residents gathered for the annual holiday banquet, and it was truly a celebration to remember! Guests enjoyed a delicious surf and turf menu paired with an irresistible selection of sweet treats.

The event was made even more special by a wonderful music performance from Davidson Fine Arts Magnet School, filling the room with festive cheer.

We look forward to hosting this cherished tradition every year and creating unforgettable moments for our residents. ❤️

🌟 Meet the Staff Monday: Kelly Thackston 🌟

Today we’re excited to introduce Kelly Thackston, our amazing Life Enrichment Director here at St. John Towers!

Kelly’s degree is in Therapeutic Recreation, and she’s also a certified clown—so consider this your official warning: boredom is NOT allowed in our community! 🎭

Kelly will celebrate 28 years at SJT in January 2026, and she says she loves every minute spent with our residents. “No two days are ever the same, which keeps things exciting—just the way I like it. Our residents are the greatest generation to ever walk this planet, and I’m lucky enough to work with them every day in their home.”

As the mastermind behind events, activities, community outings, overnight adventures, and trips (think Pigeon Forge, Charleston, Savannah, and even cruises!), Kelly also wrangles volunteers and builds partnerships with local colleges and schools.

When she’s not bringing the fun at SJT, you’ll find Kelly at the beach hunting for sharks’ teeth and seashells, soaking up the sun, and spending time with friends, family, and her two fur babies. She and her wife, Kim, have been together for 37 years, and their retirement plan is crystal clear: a tropical paradise, daily beach walks, and zero alarm clocks.

We were thrilled to welcome the Augusta West Rotary Club for their annual holiday lunch—a tradition that has been going strong for 30 years!

The Rotary Club brought cozy gifts, shared warm conversations, and joined us for a delicious lunch, all while enjoying festive tunes by Bill Karp Jazz.

We are particularly grateful for their generous donation to our community, which will contribute to fun and enriching activities through the year!

Residents showed off their holiday spirit by decorating their lobbies with festive flair, pulling from their own traditions to create vibrant displays, exemplifying our diverse community.

🌟 Meet the Staff Monday 🌟

We are proud to introduce you to our longest-tenured Service Coordinator, Cindy Nelson! Cindy has been an integral part of St. John Towers for nearly 20 years, dedicating her time and talents to serving our residents with compassion and care.

As a Service Coordinator, Cindy works tirelessly to organize and manage services that help residents maintain their independence for as long as possible. Through referrals, networking, and family connections, she ensures every need is met with professionalism and heart.

Cindy’s love for her residents shines through in everything she does. She proudly calls St. John Towers her “second home” and considers everyone here—staff and residents alike—her second family.

Outside of work, Cindy enjoys spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren. And when she’s not with them, you’ll likely find her indulging in her favorite hobby: shopping!

Please join us in celebrating Cindy for her incredible dedication and nearly two decades of service to our community.
