On November 7th, Piedmont Oncology opened a stand-alone Early Detection Pancreatic Cancer Clinic (EDC), the first of its kind in Georgia, at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. The EDC will provide accurate risk assessment for patients, improve awareness of pancreatic cancer, allow opportunities for potential research opportunities, and increase ease of access for referring clinicians and for patients. The EDC would not be possible without the generous contributions and commitments by philanthropic donors to the program.

Illuminating hope, innovation, and care

The inaugural Luminaria gala, presented by Brasfield & Gorrie, raised over $1.2 million to fuel Piedmont Oncology’s expansion of cancer research and wellness programs supporting the more than 14,000 newly diagnosed patients we care for each year across our 40 locations.

With over 350 guests, inspiring patient stories, and unforgettable moments, the evening celebrated our relentless commitment to providing comprehensive, expert cancer care.

Thank you to our honorary chairs Karen & Tom Chapman, emcee Wendy Corona and our Diamond & Platinum Sponsors: Piedmont Cancer Institute, Truist and Lockton Companies.

We’re already looking ahead to next year’s Luminaria, led by honorary chairs Mary Kent & Jeremy Ellis. Together, we’ll continue to shine a light on the exceptional care every patient deserves.

At Piedmont, breast cancer care isn’t just a service - it’s a shared commitment to hope, healing, and humanity, delivered close to home.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we honor the 2,600+ individuals diagnosed with us annually and the four million survivors across the country. These aren’t just numbers - they’re neighbors, friends, and loved ones whose stories inspire us every day.

From early detection to survivorship, our expert teams provide compassionate, innovative care across Georgia - so patients can focus on healing without leaving their communities. We see the strength in every diagnosis, the courage in every treatment, and the resilience in every recovery.

To every patient we’ve served and continue to serve: thank you for trusting us with your care.

Throughout October, team members across the Piedmont network wore pink each Wednesday in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to raising awareness, supporting early detection, and standing with those impacted by breast cancer.

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women in the U.S., but when detected early, the five-year survival rate is 99%. Annual screenings save lives and we’re here to make them accessible and convenient.

If you haven’t scheduled your mammogram, now is the time.

Kenya Buggs, 32, had a liver transplant this summer at Piedmont Atlanta Hospital —just seven months after giving birth to her daughter. Kenya needed a new liver because she has autoimmune hepatitis, a disease in which the immune system attacks the liver. October is Liver Disease Awareness Month, and Kenya wants to raise awareness of the importance of early detection of autoimmune hepatitis and other liver diseases to prevent liver damage. She also wants people to know that not all liver diseases are alcohol-related—hers isn’t. Kenya’s transplant hepatologist, Dr. Devina Bhasin, says patients should talk to their primary care doctor about available screening. Today, Kenya is thriving back at home in Warm Springs, Georgia with her new baby and new liver, thanks to the great care she received from Piedmont Transplant Institute.

Joel Neighbors had high calcium buildup noted by a doctor nearly 10 years ago. When the doctor moved away, he never followed up. Joel was referred to Dr. Neetu Reddy with Piedmont Physicians of Jasper last year.

During each office visit, Dr. Reddy insisted Joel get further tests, noting her concern for his high calcium score from a decade ago. Finally taking her advice, he made an appointment with a cardiologist, and an echocardiogram revealed Joel had approximately 90% blocked arteries, which could ultimately lead to a heart attack, stroke or other life-threatening conditions. As a result, Joel had multiple bypass surgeries in February and is now living a healthier life!

Joel couldn't believe Dr. Reddy dug so deep going back years in his file— not treating him as just a number but provided compassionate, hassle-free care. He encourages others to establish a relationship with a primary care provider, because even if you have no symptoms or pain, getting regular checkups and following up could be lifesaving.
