Halloween magic made its way through the halls of Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia today as our pediatric inpatients went trick-or-treating. Team members dressed up, lined the hallways with candy and smiles, and helped our little patients celebrate the holiday in true spooky spirit. A big thank you to our incredible Child Life Specialists for organizing this special event that brought laughter, costumes and sweet moments to kids and families spending Halloween with us.

Young patients with cancer at Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia received a little lift in the form of colorful building-block heart necklaces, handmade by constructiveHEARTS to support pediatric cancer. For every four necklaces sold, a fifth is donated to a child with cancer, and 22 necklaces were delivered Monday. The Press On Fund partnered with Constructive Hearts to distribute 22 necklaces to young cancer patients at Wellstar Children’s Hospital of Georgia.

We're updating our prescription system to better serve our patients. The retail pharmacy at Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center will be closed from 6 PM on October 24 until 8 AM on October 27. We look forward to filling your prescriptions with our new system next week.

This week, we dedicated the newly renovated lobby at Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia to Dr. Charles Howell, who recognized the need for a children’s hospital in Augusta and was instrumental in transforming our facility into a leader in pediatric care. Throughout his 40-year career as a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Howell has performed over 16,000 procedures and served as a champion for the health and well-being of Georgia’s children. Read more.

News 12 26 Augusta October Miracle Monday shined a spotlight on Loretta Lynn, one of the facility dogs at Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia in Augusta. Loretta Lynn spends her days with pediatric oncology and hematology patients, helping Child Life Manager Kym Allen connect with kids and explain medical procedures in ways they can understand. Congratulations to Dash on graduating from the pediatric intensive care unit at Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia! Dash was with us for 55 days after a car accident. Our team gathered to celebrate this milestone in his recovery and wish him well as he left the hospital. We're grateful to provide lifesaving care to kids in our community like Dash!

Wellstar Kennestone and Wellstar MCG Health Medical Centers recently earned the Gold Level ELSO Award for Excellence in Life Support. Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia also holds the prestigious award. This recognition is for programs worldwide that distinguish themselves by having processes, procedures and systems in place that promote excellence and exceptional care. Wellstar is one of only a few healthcare systems in Georgia to offer ECMO, a machine that does the work of the heart and lungs or just the lungs so organs can heal. The Wellstar Kennestone ECMO team can travel to patients at other hospitals—both within Wellstar and other systems—initiate ECMO support and transport the patient for continued care.
