🌟It's time for a new Board Member Spotlight! Let's get to know Les Limon!
💎Why did you choose to be on the Board?
I choose to be on the board of directors for South Central Mental Health because I want to continue to help the youth of our community live productive lives with peace of mind. My goal is for people to enjoy their lifestyle and be proud of themselves.
💎How long have you been a member?
I’m finishing my first year.
💎What difference do you hope to make in the community?
I hope to learn the importance of South Central Mental Health and its role in the communities. Also to continue to raise awareness in the community of the availability of services offered by South Central Mental Health.
💎What do you like most about being on the board?
It gives me the opportunity to meet the people who make South Central Mental Health possible. I like the chance to speak with the workers who show up everyday and some evenings to provide a service that is and can be life changing.
💎Who was the most influential person in your life?
My Mother, Sofie, was the most influential person in my life. She demonstrated strength, bravery, kindness, leadership, compassion, advocacy, and grit, modeling a way of life I still live by. She taught me that failure was not an option, but a stepping stone to achieve more.
💎What is something you have learned about Mental Health while on the Board?
I was a counselor at El Dorado Middle School for over thirty years which is not saying I know all there is to know about the mental health of a young person ages 10-14 years, but I am aware of how hard it is to be a middle school student. By being on the board, I have learned that the help is available in many different forms if the person and or their guardian are open to it.
💎What is a fun fact about you?
I’m a fun person, and a couple fun things about me that maybe not everyone knows is that I used to build houses here in El Dorado with my younger brother, Emilio; I also worked in the USD 490 school district for 53 years and was inducted into the Kansas Teacher Hall of Fame in 2020 before retiring in 2023.
