Our leftovers are your good fortune.
We have a few bushels of fresh Bluffton oysters that didn't quite make it onto plates at last night's Roast On the River. We are willing to let them go at a heavily discounted price - $60 per bushel. That's a champagne product at a tap water price.
If you are interested, contact Tonya Bonitatibus at (706) 755-4839. We will be around for pickups until about 4 p.m. this afternoon.

Some are born to greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them. The jury is still out on little Beau. Regardless, he has clearly announced himself as the dog-in-charge as we prep for tomorrow's Roast On the River. We still have a few tickets available. Get 'em while they are hot at:

🌧️💧 Healthy Communities had the BEST time hosting the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia today!

Girls from 6 troops across the CSRA braved the rain (yes, it poured ALL day!) and experienced the magic of the river. Together we:
✨ splashed in the water
✨ learned about the water cycle & surface tension
✨ drank water made from the humidity in the air
✨ used our senses and imaginations to create river art
✨ discovered the many ways water is used in our daily lives
✨ talked about climate change, disaster recovery, and our responsibility to protect the Savannah River

We also learned that the Savannah Riverkeeper is just one person—and she needs our help. These scouts are ready to answer that call. You’ll recognize them by the Happy Button (Hurricane Helene edition) and the Otter Button, they’ll be wearing them proudly together 🌀🦦

If you’re ever doing something to harm the river and a young girl growls at you like a dinosaur 🦖...she’s a newly minted River Guardian.

Each girl also took a River Kit back to her troop, so the lessons and responsibilities can be shared.

🌊 With hand-crank flashlights in hand, we pledged to be disaster-ready and river strong.

🌿 And the best part? The girls earned the special GSHG Environmental Steward / Climate Awareness Patch—a recognition unique to the GSHG council that celebrates their commitment to protecting the river, the earth, and the air we all share.

📵 No photos this time (broken phone + rain = tech difficulties). But trust us, it happened, and it was unforgettable. 💙

On August 13, 2025, Augusta played a pivotal role in bringing critical climate awareness to the forefront as the Extreme Weather Emergency Tour made its stop in the city. The event united local and state leaders alongside environmental advocates for a dynamic showcase of preparedness strategies against the growing threats of extreme weather. The gallery captures powerful moments from the day—highlighting engagement, collaboration, and our community’s proactive stance toward resilience in the face of climate change.

Officials and activists gathered for the Extreme Weather Emergency Tour at May Park Community Center on Aug. 13, 2025.

Fireworks are beautiful but they can temporarily make the air we breathe more polluted, especially for children, elders, and people with asthma or other lung conditions.

In Augusta, where many families already face high levels of air pollution, it’s essential to take proactive steps towards a healthier celebration:

1. Check the air quality index (AQI) before outdoor gatherings at airnow.gov

2. Keep rescue inhalers nearby if anyone has asthma, watch fireworks from a distance

3. Consider innovative low-smoke alternatives like glow sticks, LED wands, or noise-free sparklers

4. Closr indows if fireworks are being lit nearby to protect indoor air.

🎆Fireworks light up the sky—but once the show is over, the mess often ends up in places it shouldn’t. 🌧️

🚫 Please don’t throw fireworks in the storm drain, they’re not designed to handle debris, and that runoff goes directly into the Savannah River
