🌧️💧 Healthy Communities had the BEST time hosting the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia today!
Girls from 6 troops across the CSRA braved the rain (yes, it poured ALL day!) and experienced the magic of the river. Together we:
✨ splashed in the water
✨ learned about the water cycle & surface tension
✨ drank water made from the humidity in the air
✨ used our senses and imaginations to create river art
✨ discovered the many ways water is used in our daily lives
✨ talked about climate change, disaster recovery, and our responsibility to protect the Savannah River
We also learned that the Savannah Riverkeeper is just one person—and she needs our help. These scouts are ready to answer that call. You’ll recognize them by the Happy Button (Hurricane Helene edition) and the Otter Button, they’ll be wearing them proudly together 🌀🦦
If you’re ever doing something to harm the river and a young girl growls at you like a dinosaur 🦖...she’s a newly minted River Guardian.
Each girl also took a River Kit back to her troop, so the lessons and responsibilities can be shared.
🌊 With hand-crank flashlights in hand, we pledged to be disaster-ready and river strong.
🌿 And the best part? The girls earned the special GSHG Environmental Steward / Climate Awareness Patch—a recognition unique to the GSHG council that celebrates their commitment to protecting the river, the earth, and the air we all share.
📵 No photos this time (broken phone + rain = tech difficulties). But trust us, it happened, and it was unforgettable. 💙
