Falls are not a normal part of aging, and many can be prevented with the right information and support.

Take a moment to complete the National Council on Agingโ€™s Falls Free Check-Up to get a personalized falls risk assessment and tips to stay safe and independent:
๐Ÿ‘‰ https://ncoa.org/age-well-planner/assessment/falls-free-checkup

Once youโ€™ve taken the check-up, share it with a friend or loved one. Together, we can help reduce falls and keep our communities safe and strong.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one-fourth of Americans aged 65+ falls each year. Answer a few quick questions to assess your risk of falling and get a personalized report to share with your health care provider.

Thank you for the shoutout on this most important topic, Maine Council on Aging.

Governor Janet Mills has proclaimed September 22-26 Falls Prevention Week. A risk assessment ranked falls as the number one risk for older people in Maine. Preventing falls is an important part of health aging. Fall prevention programs are offered through many healthcare organizations, the Maine Association of Area Agencies on Aging, and Healthy Living for ME's A Matter of Balance Workshops. This week is National Falls Prevention Awareness Week, and in Maine, we also recognize Falls Prevention Awareness Week as officially proclaimed by Governor Janet Mills.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adultsโ€”but they are not an inevitable part of aging. Through education, awareness, and strong community partnerships, we can help reduce fall risks and support older adults in living safely and independently.

We appreciate the recognition of this important issue at the state level and remain committed to working alongside partners across Maine to promote falls prevention year-round.
