This week is National Falls Prevention Awareness Week, and in Maine, we also recognize Falls Prevention Awareness Week as officially proclaimed by Governor Janet Mills.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adultsโ€”but they are not an inevitable part of aging. Through education, awareness, and strong community partnerships, we can help reduce fall risks and support older adults in living safely and independently.

We appreciate the recognition of this important issue at the state level and remain committed to working alongside partners across Maine to promote falls prevention year-round.

Per the dietary guidelines for Americans, it is recommended that the average adult has about 3 servings of vegetables/day.

One serving is equal to 1 cup of fresh vegetables, except with leafy greens where 1 serving = 2 cups.

Frozen and canned vegetables are also an acceptable alternative to fresh.

The average person simply is not getting enough in their regular diet. Increasing fruit and vegetable consumption provides valuable vitamins, nutrients, and fiber to maintain optimal health, while limiting excess calorie intake.
