Avoidance is a normal response to feeling anxious. Avoiding what we feel can be helpful at times. For instance when we are afraid of stepping out into heavy traffic, fear helps keep us alive.

When there isn’t a real danger or we need to face what we believe could be a danger, avoidance is what tricks us into remaining anxious.

Our brains are quite attuned to what could be a threat to our safety and preparing the body and mind to do whatever is necessary to remain safe. This includes safety from physical danger as well as social dangers like embarrassment and sense of failure or shame.

If you are struggling with anxiety, consider possible moments when you avoid situations you feel anxious about. Do you avoid certain social interactions, avoid working toward a goal you have like getting a degree, avoid considering advancement in your career, avoid difficult conversations, avoid specific places or people. The possibilities of avoidance are endless.

If you recognize some avoidance, try doing the opposite of what anxiety is telling you to do. See if you can take small steps toward that thing that contributes to anxiousness. Yes, it will feel a little uncomfortable at first, that’s normal. Over time it may become less anxiety provoking.

If facing the monsters in your life feel overwhelming or you’d like more tips and tricks on managing anxiety, give augustaccc.com a call. Here to help.

Creating traditions with family can be quite simple yet create lasting memories and have a great impact. Its likely your family already has some. Do you have a movie night or weekly family dinner? Maybe you attend church together then go to lunch afterwards. Perhaps your family has a favorite sporting event you follow or attend together regularly together. What traditions do you share with your family?

If you want to change the story of us from negative to positive, try building your own fondness for your spouse.

Jot down what you do like about your spouse. Even the very small things add up to a lifetime of feeling a sense of fondness. This act can begin to create a new story about your spouse in your life.

Share with them what you love about them to bring them into that story. Over time weaving in moments of positive affirmations for each other creates a culture of appreciation within your story.

If the idea of a culture of appreciation in your relationship seems overwhelming, give Augustaccc.com a call.
