We wanted to share a quick video from one of our recent treatment sessions of a student athlete who suffers from shoulder instability. Danielle, our student PT for the last few months, has been using her personal experience as a college softball player, and the knowledge she has gained through her schooling and clinical experiences, to help our student athlete return to his full potential and get him back on the playing field.
Persistent pain with throwing, weakness in your throwing arm, loss of motion, and partial or full dislocation of a shoulder joint are common signs of shoulder instability. Shoulder instability often occurs following a traumatic incidence such as sliding hands first into a base. However you can begin to feel the symptoms of shoulder instability due to repetitive motions such as overhead throwing, which over time can weaken the passive tissue around the shoulder joint.
Spring and summer sports have begun to ramp up - such as baseball, softball, track, golf, even camps for fall and winter sports will be starting in just a few months! If you're an athlete participating in any of these sports and have noticed persistent pain, weakness, and loss of motion with overhead or throwing activities - give Esslinger Physical Therapy a call to set up an appointment today. Our goal has always been to get you back to functioning at your full potential as soon as possible.
