Repost from :(At Robert W. Coleman Elementary in Baltimore, staff replaced detention with a “Mindful Moment Room” — a soothing space filled with soft lighting and plush pillows where students practice breathing and meditation instead of traditional punishment.
Partnering with the Holistic Life Foundation’s “Holistic Me” program, the school supports students with yoga, mindfulness, gardening, environmental cleanup, and even leadership roles as co-teachers. Parents have shared stories of their kids helping them de-stress by teaching them to breathe.
Since implementing this approach, the school has recorded zero suspensions since the 2014-15 year — a remarkable shift showing the power of self-regulation, reflection, and connection.)
