Combination vaccines are convenient, but can also be misleading. 💉😳
Make sure you ask the provider about the vaccines they are giving! What is in the combo shots? What are the vaccines for? Are they all absolutely necessary? Be informed!
How many parents bring their 2, 4, or 6 month old in to the doctor’s office for their vaccines and are told their baby is getting two pokes? It makes it sound pretty reasonable, doesn’t it!
But how many doctor’s tell them that those two pokes contain SEVEN vaccines plus another oral vaccine?
Poke 1: Diphtheria + tetanus + pertussis + hepatitis B + Hib (h influenzae) + polio
Poke 2: pneumococcal
Oral dose: rotavirus
When presented as 1-2 medications, it sounds convenient. But do the parents REALLY know their child is getting EIGHT DIFFERENT vaccines in one visit?
Most providers say, “Alright, let’s do those vaccines! Any questions?”
The parent: “Yes, how many will he get?”
“It’s just two shots and an oral dropper!”
Then they leave the room and have their medical assistant hand the parent a one-page sheet of paper that explains the typical injection-site and Fever side effects. The MA then administers the vaccines.
Did the parents know how many vaccines their child actually got? Did you?
Not medical advice. Just informed consent and personal opinion.
