Combination vaccines are convenient, but can also be misleading. 💉😳

Make sure you ask the provider about the vaccines they are giving! What is in the combo shots? What are the vaccines for? Are they all absolutely necessary? Be informed!

How many parents bring their 2, 4, or 6 month old in to the doctor’s office for their vaccines and are told their baby is getting two pokes? It makes it sound pretty reasonable, doesn’t it!

But how many doctor’s tell them that those two pokes contain SEVEN vaccines plus another oral vaccine?
Poke 1: Diphtheria + tetanus + pertussis + hepatitis B + Hib (h influenzae) + polio
Poke 2: pneumococcal
Oral dose: rotavirus

When presented as 1-2 medications, it sounds convenient. But do the parents REALLY know their child is getting EIGHT DIFFERENT vaccines in one visit?

Most providers say, “Alright, let’s do those vaccines! Any questions?”

The parent: “Yes, how many will he get?”

“It’s just two shots and an oral dropper!”

Then they leave the room and have their medical assistant hand the parent a one-page sheet of paper that explains the typical injection-site and Fever side effects. The MA then administers the vaccines.

Did the parents know how many vaccines their child actually got? Did you?

How many vaccines 💉or vaccine exposures will your child receive if they follow the American Academy of Pediatrics immunization schedule?🤔

Don’t shoot the messenger. 🎯

I just think it is important that parents know what their child is receiving. Especially when their babies get combination shots, it sometimes feels like fewer vaccines. But how many total vaccines is it?

If a child gets one dose of DTaP, that is a 3-in-1 vaccine, does that mean it is just one vaccine? Of course not. What if the child got three separate injections if diphtheria and tetanus and pertussis, would that be one vaccine as well? Of course not.

What if it takes a series of five to be fully immunized? Cool, but they still got 5 vaccines to get there. It’s like a full course of antibiotics. They still had to take 14 doses to get the full treatment.

Let’s stop deceiving parents. When a 2 month old is given 2 shots and an oral vaccine, it feels like it isn’t much. But do the parents know those 2 shots have diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, polio, hepatitis B, Hib, and pneumococcal plus the oral rotavirus? Do they know their child just got 8 immunizations that day? They better!

Internal memo says to avoid having a risk/benefit discussion regarding newborn interventions with parents. 🤯Just smile, sound confident, and focus on the benefits. 😀

Don’t allow parents to have too many questions. Keep the conversation positive and confident!

How is that informed consent?! It is not!!!

Ugh, this makes me sick!

Question the safety of everything else and you are a good parent. Question the safety of vaccines and you are a conspiracy theorist anti-vax nut job!

When parents do their research on everything else, but researching vaccines is not allowed!

Safety concerns are found in all areas of life. Manufacturers may not have tested a certain safety feature. Maybe they knew about a safety concern and sold the product anyway. What about post-marketing safety?

These recalls happen all the time with everything else, but not vaccines. Concerns about safety get swept under a rug, labeled anti-vax, and “correlation does not equal causation!” But is that fair? Or is that propaganda to keep you compliant!

Risks and benefits of the tetanus shot💉 (found in DTaP and TDaP vaccines).

Some hospitals may carry the TD shot, but most carry the three-in-one that includes tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis.

Flu shots no longer mandatory for service members. 😳

Will other employers follow suit? 🤔

Maybe people are tired of being told what to do with their health and employers are tired of being sued and losing. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Have you heard that Hepatitis B can be transmitted through contact with contaminated surfaces? 🤯

This is why we are told to vaccinate 💉 our newborns, even if mom doesn’t have hep B!

But what is that risk?

ESSENTIALLY ZERO!!! 💉🫣 The risk is THEORETICAL!

There have been zero documented cases of children getting hep B from touching a contaminated surface.

So, who is fear-mongering!

Know who is at risk and who isn’t. It always comes to down to risk and benefit and you should know what the risk is on either side.

The risk of COVID was almost zero in children. But sure, it made sense to vaccinate every single child aged 6 months and over with very little safety data and no long-term follow up. 🙄😡

“Oops, it caused myocarditis, pericarditis, and sudden deaths. Our bad.”

I remember this when arguing with other providers about vaccine safety. These are the doctors/providers who recommended, and probably still recommend, the COVID vaccine in children.

The American Academy of Pediatrics still recommends it. 💉🤬

What’s the risk of getting hepatitis B from a contaminated surface?

No really. What is it? Look it up. 👀

We are told newborns don’t only need the hepatitis B shot if mom is hep B positive because there is still risk of getting it from a contaminated surface. So, how risky is it?

What vaccines are “recommended” for a 2 month old?

If you follow the American Academy of Pediatrics Immunization Schedule, your child will receive:

Diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis (DTaP)
Polio
Hib
Hep B
Rotavirus
+/-RSV

This means your child will receive 7-8 vaccines all in one visit.

Some vaccines come in convenient combos, but this often leads to issues in the office if they weren’t prepared for a longer vaccine conversation or a parent who wants to decide which vaccines they want or don’t want.

Always call the office before the appointment to make sure you are on the same page with vaccines and if you decide to do separate vaccines instead of combos to allow time to order them!

Not medical advice. Just informed consent and personal opinion.

Them: “Only a physician has the qualifications to talk about vaccines.”

Me: “There are physicians who question vaccine safety.”

Them: “They don’t count! Dissenters are uneducated.”
