No one posted the number of lunches served yesterday - sorry! Naperville prepared the lunches and brought a slew of volunteers! So many that some of our regulars were able to take the day off!
I am currently looking for bids for a stainless steel countertop for the kitchen. Looks like it will cost between $2,100 and $2,700. We are hoping to get a grant to pay for this. If we get it, meal preparation will be ten times easier and more efficient!
Thanks to all of our volunteers and contributing Churches and groups. Blessings!

St. David cooked yesterday - tasty hot dogs for 440 lunches. Our limit is 450 under current financial restrictions. Our loyal volunteers seem to be getting a little weary. God Bless them for their efforts and the impact they are making to the underserved of Aurora.
May God grant us the wisdom and unity of purpose to persevere!

Sorry to be so tardy in reporting last week's Sandwich Board numbers. Long Holiday weekend! On Thursday, May 22nd, we served 454 meals - I think either our all time high or pretty darn close. Trinity cooked. Great volunteers. Great work! Our weekly average is now 395! The numbers are putting a strain on our resources - please donate if you can!

Was quite exciting! We had a drunk trying to pick a fight, thank you APD! Some counted on sandwiches failed to materialize so we had to scramble to shop for and make lunches to bring us to the 42o we served.
This is the first ruckus we have had in a long time. I remember before Covid, when people were coming in to east, we'd have something going on at least once a month! Thanks to Geneva for their lunches and to our wonderful volunteers for persevering through adversity! Our weekly average is up to 381!

What's up? Not our numbers! Only, and I say only with tongue in cheek, 367 lunches yesterday. that marks only 2 of the last 7 weeks that have been under 400 lunches. Our average for the year is 390 lunches per week. Thanks to Downers Grove for the meals and to all our volunteers! God bless the each and every one.

St. David's cooked this week! We were a little short handed due to trips, sickness, etc. so Scott called around and we got additional helpers from two other Churches, one for sure was the Unitarian Universalist Society, I think the other helpers came from Naperville, but I am not sure. Anyhow the word must have gotten out that we were serving a tasty hot casserole! 444 lunches were served on a beautiful day! What a joy!

Call now to connect with business.

421 Lunches yesterday on a dark and blah day. I got a call at 10:40 am asking if we were serving lunches today because there was a crowd waiting. I politely told her that we don't start serving until 11:30 am. She said, "Oh, sorry, I thought it was at 10:30!" Anxious people in an anxious world!

We served 400 lunches yesterday. Our thanks to Naperville for the food and all the help! 442 last week 400 this week, 360 two weeks ago. No predicting what's going to happen except that our average weekly numbers continue to grow -up to 387 this week. As always thanks to our wonderful volunteers. Jack is off for relief the next couple of weeks. Welcome back Scott.
And thanks to each of you receiving this for your support!

Did you ever consider what kind of supplies it takes to feed 400 people lunch? These pics are from when St. John's Naperville cooked early in February. And the pictures don't include the many pans of pulled pork in the refrigerator!

4th Quarter Summary 2024
9/30/2024-12/31/2024
This report covers The Sandwich Board’s Fourth Quarter of its fourth Fiscal year as an independent Section 501(c)(3) not-for profit corporation. The Sandwich Board is a spin off from being a mission of Trinity Episcopal Church’s Jubilee Mission and is supported by:
Trinity Episcopal Church of Aurora St. David Episcopal Church of Aurora
St. Charles Episcopal Church St. John Episcopal Church of Naperville
St, Mark Episcopal Church of Geneva St. Andrew Church of Downers Grove
Grace Episcopal Church of Hinsdale Unitarian Universalist Society of Geneva
The ‘peanut butter and jelly’ ladies who provide sandwiches.

The Sandwich Board continues to serve nutritious bagged lunches to guests outside the Benton Street entrance to Trinity’s Parish Hall. The meals typically consist of a sandwich, fruit, dessert and some kind of beverage. At least once a month we serve hot meals in sealed cups. We also give out donated clothes, and toiletries. Most of our guests come regularly. Our regulars are welcomed by name and share their stories with our volunteers. Two volunteers from the Association for Individual Development attend weekly as part of their homelessness initiative. One of those volunteers speaks fluent Spanish and adds to our ability to meet the needs of our guests. The lunches are provided by our wonderful participating churches and are supplemented by the Sandwich Board as necessary. When we have extra lunches on hand after the Sandwich Board ends, we give them to homeless people at their Aurora tent city. Please note that the Sandwich Board purchased $7,805 worth of lunches, and $3,721 on lunch support (non-food) during the year.
We are also thankful for the weekly donation of baked goods by Panera Bread. Our guests love them!
We have served over 19,100 lunches this year up 26% from last year’s total of 15,190 and averaged 367 lunches per week.
We have been blessed by a loyal group of volunteers who come every Thursday that has grown with several new members which brings our number of regulars to eight. We are also grateful for the huge generosity of our participating Churches. Many of them also bring a group of volunteers the week they supply the food. Our enduring thanks to Trinity, which continues to provide space and support for our efforts.

I guess an ice storm scared away our guests yesterday. We dropped to 280 meals served! And Naperville prepared hot pulled pork sandwiches for 400, so we have two trays of frozen pulled pork for another day. Our sincere thanks to Terald for getting the door closure mechanism replaced. It is so nice!
Thanks to all the volunteers, we are truly blessed.
