Prosthetics no longer offers walk-ins for softgood devices such as OTS braces, compression stockings etc. The Softgoods Clinic changed to a scheduled appointment clinic only, in early 2025. In addition, new mandatory Orthotic, Prosthetic & Pedorthic Clinical Services (OPPCS) national consults have been implemented which changed the process for providing veterans prosthetics prescribed items.

With the new process, once your provider enters a OPPCS Prosthetics consult, clinical staff reviews the consult to either triage for scheduling into one of the VA prosthetics provider clinics, or the consult is referred to a community provider close to the Veterans home. We apologize for any inconvenience with this change which may delay the time it takes to receive your soft goods device or orthotic brace during this transition.

Today kicks off National Volunteer Week, celebrated from April 19-25 this year. The event is more than 50 years old, its first official celebrations taking place in 1974. It’s meant to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle society’s greatest challenges, to build stronger communities and be a force that transforms the world.

Here at VA ECHCS, in FY25, we had more than 340 volunteers provide more than 58,000 hours of service to Veterans and we received donated funds totaling almost $2.4 million. Our volunteers are vital to the Veteran’s experience, and I simply cannot thank each of you enough for your selfless sacrifice to ensuring Veterans, their families, caregivers and survivors are supported.

We are so thankful for our volunteers. If you would like to join the team, email vavolunteer@va.gov

At VA ECHCS, we know that every veteran’s journey to health is supported by a dedicated team of professionals working behind the scenes—and that includes our incredible medical laboratory team. Their expertise and teamwork are essential in providing the accurate and timely results that guide every decision, every treatment, and every moment of care.

Medical laboratory professionals are one of those quiet heroes ensuring that vital results are ready when our veterans need them most. They work tirelessly behind the scenes, drawing patients and collaborating with clinicians, nurses and other departments to deliver precise information that are key to the understanding, monitoring and diagnosing of health conditions which in turn have an impact on personalized care.

This week, we celebrate their dedication, teamwork, and the vital role they play in helping us provide the highest quality of care. Thank you for your commitment to our veterans’ health and well-being.

Happy Laboratory Professionals Week!
