Welcome to this week’s “Ingredient of the Week” spotlight, witches! This week we’ll feature a Curio Bar classic, Bat’s Head Root.

Bat’s Head Root is a unique botanical used in witchcraft, voodoo, and hoodoo traditions. Though often called a root, it’s actually a seed pod, named for its striking resemblance to a bat’s head.

It’s commonly used in mojo bags + sachets, protection charms, and manifestation spells. This seed pod works as a spiritual amplifier, boosting the effects of whatever working it’s placed into. Its traditional associations include protection from curses, reversing hexes, attracting luck, and enhancing the success of any ritual.

In particular, Bat’s Head Root holds strong connections to crossroads magick, lunar spells, and dream work. Its energy is subtle yet potent, helping to guide intentions into the realm of possibility.

Welcome to this week’s “Ingredient of the Week” spotlight, witches. This week’s feature is a Yuletide season classic, Mistletoe!

Some other folk names for this herb include All Heal, Birdlime, Devil’s Fuge, Donnerbesen, European Mistletoe, Golden Bough, Holy Wood, Lignam sanctae crucis, Misseltoe, Thunderbesem, Witches Broom, and Wood of the Cross. Mistletoe is a masculine herb. His planetary ruler is the Sun and his element is Air. He is associated with the deities Apollo, Freya, F***g, Venus and Odin.

Long used for protection against lightening, disease, misfortune of every kind, fires, and so on, it is either carried or placed in an appropriate place for these uses. Mistletoe is placed in cradles to protect children from being stolen by faeries and replaced with changelings. A ring carved from mistletoe wood will ward off sickness and the plant will cure fresh wounds quickly when carried (NOTE: DO NOT apply directly to wounds). This herb is carried or worn for good luck in hunting, and women carry the herb in aid in conception. Mistletoe has been used in spells designed to capture the elusive state of immortality, and to open locks. Laid near the bedroom door, it gives restful sleep and beautiful dreams, as it does when placed beneath the pillow or hung on the headboard. Kiss your love beneath mistletoe and you’ll stay in love. When burned, it banishes evil.

We have an exciting announcement, witches! You can now gift a ticket for any of our classes, lectures + workshops! Here’s how it works…

This service is available both in-store and online. If you’re visiting us in the storefront for your purchase, we will simply give you a greeting card certificate and envelope for you to fill out and gift. All we will need is the recipient’s name for our attendance log.

If you’re purchasing a ticket online, when filling out the contact info portion of your order form, please type the recipient’s full name and mailing address. This is where WE will mail the greeting card certificate to. In the “Notes” portion of the order form, please state that you are requesting a gift certificate service and state YOUR name, so we can let them know who sent it. We will have greeting card certificates in the mail next-day. Please be mindful of deadlines for timely holiday delivery.

Also NEW this season, we have eGift certificates available online! These are a great option for out-of-town witches that would love access to holiday Online Apothecary goodies.

Our traditional, rechargeable debit card-style gift certificates are always available in-store for all of your last-minute gifting needs.
