Family physicians are on the front lines of pediatric mental health. Anxiety, mood concerns, and behavior challenges are showing up in your practice and you are often the first place families turn for support.

The Colorado Pediatric Psychiatry Consultation & Access Program (CoPPCAP) empowers clinicians with consultation, education, and navigation of local resources to help meet this challenge more effectively.

In this insightful post, Colorado pediatrician Dr. Kaitlin Whelan shares her experience with CoPPCAP and how regional collaborations β€” like the upcoming Northeast Colorado hub event β€” are tailoring support to meet local practice realities.

The joins the AMA and other physician organizations in opposing immigration enforcement interference in health care facilities. We stand in full support of our family physicians and their colleagues in communities across Minnesota working to ensure that all patients have access to safe, confidential care from a trusted health care professional.

"The AMA is deeply concerned by reports of immigration enforcement activity in and around hospitals and emergency rooms – a tactic fueling fear among patients and hospital staff alike. When people are afraid to seek medical attention for themselves or their families, it threatens their health, impedes the ability of physicians to render care, and ultimately undermines basic trust in our health care institutions." This year, CAFP made a real difference for Colorado physicians and the communities they serve.
βœ”οΈ Non-compete clauses in physician contracts are now prohibited (SB-83)
βœ”οΈ Stigmatizing mental health questions have been removed from medical licensure applications (HB-1176)
These changes help protect physician well-being, strengthen the workforce, and improve access to care across Colorado. Thank you to our members, partners, and champions who made this progress possible.

Warm holiday wishes from all of us at CAFP. Thank you for caring for Colorado all year long. 🎁✨

Speak Out! Take action now and urge your members of Congress via a letter or a call to reject government interference in medical care. Speak out here: https://fammedpac.aafp.org/take-action/alertid/646/

The AAFP is unwavering in its support for evidence-based, science-backed care for all. We oppose any policies that jeopardize patients’ ability to receive necessary treatment or criminalize physicians for providing it.

"For most family physicians, our commitment to providing hepatitis B vaccination to newborns remains the same today as it was before the CDC’s ACIP voted last week to change a longstanding recommendation.

We will still have conversations with our patients about the vaccine. We will still address their concerns with empathy. And then, as we always have, we will still provide hepatitis B vaccination to newborns when we and the parents align in shared decision-making."
