The Autoimmunity Screening for Kids (ASK) Program, operated by the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, is a FREE screening program to detect type 1 diabetes and celiac disease in children aged 1-17. With the goal of screening 50,000-70,000 children over the next three years and funded by JDRF International, Janssen (Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson+Johnson) and The Leona M. ASK was established to improve timely diagnosis and provide access to early interventions, education and resources for parents and caregivers of those who test positive. At the ASK program, we're pleased to know our health care colleagues find value in our no cost and disease screenings, helping them identify the sources of health issues faced by their patients.

We’re happy to announce that since the ASK screening program launched in 2017, we have now completed 40,000 screenings!

Of all those tested, 1% screened positive for T1D biomarkers, and more than 2% had biomarkers for celiac disease.

Screening works! People who screen positive have important opportunities to prepare and plan for these autoimmune diseases before they experience symptoms and, in some cases, can delay the onset of symptoms.

ASK is a research program launched by the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BarbaraDavisCenter.org) that offers SCREENINGS AT NO COST to ALL U.S. children (ages 1-17) and adults to detect Type 1 Diabetes and Celiac Disease.

We love re-sharing the King family's important message about the high value of early screenings!

09/07/2024

This short video, created by the ASK Screening Program, CU-Anschutz, offers sound arguments for physicians to provide screenings for their patients, whether a family history for T1D exists or not. We encourage you to watch these sisters explain why these screenings matter to them and their families.

The ASKscreening program (ASKhealth.org) and the STOP T1D program (STOPT1Dprogram.org) were both created by the doctors and researchers at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes on the University of Colorado's Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora, Colorado (BarbaraDavisCenter.org).

ASK's mission is to bring awareness to the community of the importance of and Disease—the two most common diseases of childhood—and to reduce health risks of delayed diagnosis of these diseases. ASK offers free screenings for both T1D and celiac disease for kids 1-17 years old and adults.

The STOP T1D program's mission is to raise awareness among Health Care Providers ( ) and communities about the critical importance of early detection and the severe consequences of delayed diagnosis of type 1 diabetes - and to educate and empower and organizations with the knowledge, competence, and tools necessary for effective screening, timely diagnosis, and age-specific monitoring practices.

STOP T1D offers a free, online, course for and professionals interested in knowing more about type 1 diabetes. Visit STOPT1Dprogram.org/for-hcp to review and register for the course.

💙 Please share to help us spread awareness, with our thanks!

WHAT IS SCREENING ALL ABOUT?

ASK is a FREE health screening for Childhood Diabetes ( ) and Celiac Disease (CD) for children, ages 1–17, including those with NO family history of either disease.

When you sign up for screening through the ASK Program, a small amount of blood will be collected from your child.

This blood will be tested for markers, called autoantibodies, which are the first signs of childhood diabetes and/or celiac.

You will be contacted with the results of the screening.

If the results are positive, we would confirm these results and provide free follow-up. The ASK Follow-Up Program is there for you if your child is screened positive.

Your participation in the ASK Research Program could help change the standards for pediatric care by helping scientists at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes assess the benefits and cost-effectiveness of universal screening for and Disease—the two most common autoimmune diseases of childhood.

Know your child's status so you can be prepared.
