Reliving the day in June of 2015 that changed my life. I received the phone call that my nephew had drowned. CPR was performed and I needed to rush to the hospital, his mother my youngest sister was an hour away, my mom, and older sister were there at the hospital already. As I received the call I actually hesitated thinking it was ok and that he had just gotten water in his lungs and was fine. Something stopped me right there and said go. I went to the hospital and I could see the panic, and a look I’ve never witnessed in my life from my mom and older sister. I didn’t get to see him at the moment, the doctors said they were now transferring him to Children’s Hospital. I agreed to leave first and go to Children’s, at this moment I still did not understand the severity of how grim the outcome would fall on our family. We are a family of 5 kids, and 8 grandchildren. All the grandchildren are so close, each one has a partner, no it wasn’t planned it just turned out that way. My nephew was one of the five boys, all the kids were more than cousins the bond stemming from the 17-year-old at the time to the youngest 6 months old are like brother and sister for they all called each other brother or sister not cousins. They spent just about every day with one another somehow someway. My four-year-old nephew and my son were partners - only two and a half years apart. Our family background stems from over 40 years combined healthcare experience, so we have always been prepared to save a life, we have witnessed and been present for the deaths of our elderly clients. Despite this background, nothing can prepare you once you are hit with your own personal grim experience. As we arrived to Children’s Hospital we were given the report that CPR was performed by my older sister and a passerby at the apartment. However, our nephew had slipped into a coma. He never came out of the coma. We were able to have two weeks with him until the life support was removed. Words do not come into play to lose a loved one so close, so small, so soon. Our family tragedy, as you can imagine, has and will continue to affect our family for the rest of our lives. I am beyond thankful, as our whole family is, for my older sister and the stranger who performed high quality CPR until the Emergency Response Team arrived. Even though we lost my precious nephew, there is something reassuring and comforting knowing that a family member was there to help him. I strongly feel that it may have been much worse physically, mentally, emotionally if CPR was not administered prior. Due to our tragedy we are determined more than ever to provide awareness of how vital it is for everyone to learn the vital life-saving skills of CPR. Through high quality CPR training you are able to not be a bystander but a lifesaver no matter the outcome. It is true that most accidents occur in the presence of a loved one, at home. To be unaware is a tragedy in itself. Thus, CPROR was established in 2015 in honor of our four-year-old nephew. We provide high quality, effective CPR training through the American Heart Association. Our aim is to reach not only those who are required to hold their CPR certificate, but families, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers - all in the family to be prepared in case ever an emergency arrives. We teach various courses both at local facilities and offer a mobile service to your location of choice. Our courses include certified, and non-certified CPR courses, First Aid, Baby Basics, Breast feeding, Car Seat Safety inspections. We are certified to teach these courses, and our aim is truly to teach all in the community. Our goal is to provide additional advanced CPR training, water safety, and various parenting classes to all in the community, to be able to provide grants, donations, and help to everyone.
