In Traditional Chinese Medicine, staying cool in the summer is about more than just physical temperature 🌡️—it’s also about maintaining internal balance, especially between yin (🌙 cooling, moistening energy) and yang (☀️ warming, active energy). Summer is associated with the Fire element 🔥, and it’s a yang season, so the body is more prone to overheating, irritability, restlessness, and dehydration 💦.

Here’s how to stay cool during the hot summer months according to TCM:

💧 Stay Hydrated
Drink fluids regularly throughout the day 💦, but stick with room temperature or warm drinks 🫖—even if you’re feeling hot.
⚠️ Cold drinks can weaken your Spleen Yang, which may negatively affect digestion 🍽️.

🥗 Eat Light & Cooling Foods
Adding some light and cooling foods into the diet is great during the summer months!
Try:

🥒 Cucumbers
🍉 Watermelon
🥬 Green leafy veggies
These help nourish yin and replenish body fluids 💧.
☯️ But remember: balance is key! These should be combined with cooked or warm foods to support digestion.

🚫 Avoid Overheating Foods

🌶️ Hot & spicy foods
🍟 Greasy or fried foods
These add excessive heat and burden your digestive system.

🧘‍♀️ Move Mindfully
Movement and exercise are important during the summer—it helps keep Qi flowing smoothly throughout the body 🌀.
🏃‍♂️ But be mindful:

Stay hydrated 🧴
Avoid overexertion in the sun ☀️😓 Dress for the Season
Wear light, breathable clothing 🩳👚 to help your body regulate temperature naturally.

My 10 yo requested cupping because her neck was as bothering her.

She’s had cupping many times and loves how it makes her feel. But tonight, she asked me to try sliding cupping. 😳

There are 3 kinds of cupping: sliding, stationary & flash. Each used by Chinese medicine practitioners for different purposes.

Sliding cupping can be a bit uncomfortable. Some people LOVE it. She did great! So proud of her! 💜
