Healing and recovery can feel heavy when you’re trying to do it by yourself. Sometimes the hardest part is feeling alone with your story. That’s where peer support comes in.

Peer support means having someone beside you who has faced their own challenges, understands what it feels like to struggle, and is willing to listen without judgment. Together, you can talk through tough days, celebrate small wins, and stay focused on the next right step.

At Heart House, peer support is one more way we remind our residents: you don’t have to do this alone. Learn more about our support services here: https://hearthouseinc.org

Shelter is where it starts for us, but it doesn’t end there. We provide a safe bed and warm, consistent meals for residents, but we also focus on life beyond our walls.

Residents are connected with life-skills classes, counseling, child and family support, and other resources that help them move toward independent living. Around the building, you’ll hear laughter in the halls, see kids playing, and notice staff checking in on residents.

We do our best to create a place that feels caring and steady, even in the middle of a crisis. Our goal is for every person who comes through our doors to feel seen, supported, and hopeful about what comes next.

For families facing a hard season, having a safe, steady place to land can make all the difference. Here, parents and caregivers can catch their breath while kids have a place to feel safe, play, and be themselves. There’s space for rest, for routines, and for starting to think about what comes next.

This month, as we think about Mother’s Day and all who care for children in any role, we’re especially grateful for the chance to support families.

We want every parent, grandparent, guardian, and caregiver who walks through our doors to feel respected and supported. And we want every child to know they are seen, valued, and not alone.

Hello friends of Heart House! Ahead of Mother’s Day, and as we get into the summer months, some of our Heart House mom’s struggle with daycare options as vital programs such as SIEOC Head Start go on break. We are looking for resources to help our single mothers maintain affordable childcare. If you or someone you know could be a resource, please comment on this post, email help@hearthouseinc.org, or send us a message. We appreciate our community and the amazing supporters we have!

Thanks for sharing your ❤️ with us and thanks to all the mothers working hard to support our future!

When someone comes to us in crisis, it can feel like everything is happening at once. There are big emotions, urgent needs, and many questions about what to do next.

We don’t expect anyone to sort that out on their own. For that reason, our team offers:

🔹Immediate needs assessments.
🔹Peer coaching.
🔹Referral support to other community resources.

That might look like sitting down to talk through what’s happening right now, helping make an important phone call, or connecting someone with counseling or recovery services.

Most of all, it means having someone beside you who listens, cares, and helps you take the next small step. If you or someone you know needs support, you can learn more about our services here: https://hearthouseinc.org

May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and for us, that connects closely with the work we do every day. When someone has a safe place to sleep and a steady routine, it becomes a little easier to slow down, breathe, and start to heal on the inside, too.

Here, support looks like:

💙Simple, honest conversations.
💙Talking about stress.
💙Naming worries.
💙Finding healthy ways to cope, one step at a time.

We care about the whole person, about how they’re really doing. No one should feel ashamed to say, “I’m struggling.”

Every meal we serve starts long before it reaches a plate. It starts in our kitchen, in the walk-in coolers and freezers that keep food safe and ready for our residents each day.

Right now, some of this equipment is worn out from daily use and needs to be replaced. That’s why we’re launching a capital campaign to raise $250,000 for phase 1 of our building and equipment project.

New walk-in coolers and freezers might sound simple, but they are a big part of how we:

✅Keep food safe
✅Serve steady, reliable meals, and
✅Make sure our shelter can keep going strong

When our equipment is reliable, our doors stay open, our kitchen keeps running, and our residents know they can count on us. It’s a practical investment in our future and in the people we serve every day.

Parenting is hard work. Trying to parent while facing a housing crisis can feel even harder.

At Heart House, we come alongside families with parenting support and child-focused services that help bring a little more calm and stability to daily life.

Parents can take part in classes and coaching that offer real, practical tools for everyday challenges. And, children have a safe place to learn, play, and just be kids while their family gets back on their feet.

Our hope is that families leave here feeling stronger, more confident, and more supported, with kids who know they are safe and cared for.
