If you missed signing the card at Back to School Night, feel free to make cards at home and drop off in the office for Mrs. Howell, and PTO will get them. Former students and families are also welcome to do so.

THANK YOU to everyone who signed Mrs. Howell's get-well card at Back to School Night! She's going to LOVE it! We had some inquiries about donations toward a gift for her as well. If you'd like to make a donation, we'll accept them via PayPal and Venmo until August 31. Please mention Mrs. Howell in the notes so we know what it's for

To our Freeman Community,

We ask on behalf of everyone that all families review the traffic pattern for drop-off/pick-up and follow it for everyone's safety. Let's have a year without horns, near misses, and ignoring traffic. A life is not worth you being a few minutes late. All cars should be entering the line on Kensington coming from the EAST, not turning onto Glenwood from the west. This is not for your inconvenience, it is for the safety of walkers and all cars to avoid possible collisions. We ask everyone to:

-SLOW DOWN
-PAY ATTENTION
-STAY OFF PHONES
-FOLLOW THE TRAFFIC PATTERN
-REMIND YOUR FRIENDS

Hello Freeman Community! You've probably noticed some changes around here, and perhaps have some questions. Please reach out anytime if you have a question not addressed in this post.

What happened to PTA?
Freeman PTA is now Freeman PTO! PTO stands for Parent Teacher Organization instead of Association. This means we now operate independently of any overseeing entity or group. We promise we didn't go anywhere.

What is a PTO?
Good news- PTO is almost identical to PTA! Any changes are behind the scenes administrative things. PTO will operate exactly the same moving forward, so the change should be seamless.

Who is a member of PTO?
Any current parent or guardian of a Freeman student is a member of PTO- it's that simple!

Are there membership dues?
No! All current Freeman families are automatic members. No forms or dues are required. This is one major change from being a PTA.

How will you operate without dues?
PTO will still hold fundraising events throughout the year, which we hope our community will continue to support year after year. These fundraisers help us hold our fun community events, provide our amazing staff with lunches, and support our Freeman community. We will at any time also graciously accept any donations anyone wishes to give.

How can I get involved?
We have a place for you! We have events and fundraisers throughout the year that always need volunteers in order to run smoothly. We also have a number of committee chair openings that need filling so these events are successful. Many hands make light work. We also hold monthly meetings that all are welcome to attend to learn how we operate and what is coming up on the calendar. We look forward to seeing you!

STEP INTO THE NEW YEAR!

Is it too soon to talk back-to-school? Maybe. Are we doing it anyway? Absolutely. 😄

School District 129 is excited to welcome families back for the 2025–26 school year! From Welcome Back Night, to Walk the Building events, students and families will have plenty of chances to connect, explore, and gear up for an amazing school year ahead.

📚 Welcome Back Night – Tuesday, August 12, 4–6 PM
All elementary schools, the Early Learning Academy, Blackhawk Academy, and Hope D. Wall will open their doors for families to meet staff, visit classrooms, and get set for a strong start!

🗺️ Walk the Building – Middle Schools
August 5 | 9–11 AM
August 6 and 7 | 3–6 PM
Students and families can pick up schedules, find lockers, and walk through daily routines. Sixth grade students will also receive their school-issued devices during these events.

🎽 Middle School Athletics Registration
August 7 | 3–5 PM
Get ready for the season by getting registered on-site!

🏫 West Aurora High School Walk the Building
August 5: 8 AM–12 PM & 5–7 PM
August 6 & 7: 8 AM–12 PM
Freshmen will also receive their school-issued devices during these events.

We can’t wait to see everyone back in the buildings soon!
