Avoidant Attachment
People with avoidant attachment styles struggle to form and maintain close and intimate relationships. They often exhibit a strong desire for Independence and self-reliance, preferring to rely on themselves rather than depending on others. A person with an avoidant attachment may prioritize their own needs and autonomy over emotional closeness. Avoiding attachment may develop due to early experiences with parents/caregivers that were constantly unresponsive or rejecting. As a defense mechanism, they learn to suppress their emotional needs and rely on themselves believing that depending on others will only lead to disappointment or rejection.

-Emotional distance: Individuals may avoid sharing their feelings or things that they're vulnerable about with their partners and may be uncomfortable with displaying affection or having emotional intimacy.
-Fear of dependency: They may have difficulty relying on others or accepting help and prefer handling things on their own.

-Overanalyzing and misinterpreting behaviors: Individuals tend to be hyperaware of their partner's actions and behaviors. They may constantly analyze and interpret their partner's words and actions, often jumping to negative conclusions even when it may not be the case.
-Clinging behavior: They may exhibit clingy or dependent behaviors in relationships, constantly seeking physical closeness and reassurance.
-Jealousy and possessiveness: Anxiously attached individuals may experience intense jealousy or possessiveness in relationships. They may have difficulty trusting their partners and may feel threatened by the perceived attention or affection given to others.
-Emotional volatility: Changing emotions are common in individuals with anxious attachments. They may experience intense highs and lows, ranging from extreme happiness when their attachment figure is responsive to deep despair and anxiety when they feel rejected or ignored.

Post-traumatic stress disorder

Comes in four categories: Intrusion symptoms, Avoidance symptoms, Negative alterations in mood and cognition, and Hyperarousal symptoms.
1. Intrusion symptoms are often the most recognizable symptoms of PTSD they include:
- Recurrent, intrusive, and distressing memories or nightmares of the traumatic event.
- Intense and distressing flashbacks or dissociative reactions are where the person feels like they are reliving the event.
- Strong emotional and physical reactions to reminders of the traumatic event.
2. Avoidance symptoms: The person tries to avoid anything that reminds them of the traumatic event:
- Avoiding places, people, or activities that might trigger memories of the trauma.
- Efforts to avoid thoughts or feelings associated with the traumatic event.
- Loss of interest in activities that were once enjoyable.
3. Negative alterations in mood and cognition: The person may experience changes in their emotions and thoughts, such as:
- Negative beliefs or expectations.
Feelings of guilt, shame, or self-blame.
- Memory and concentration problems.
4. Hyperarousal symptoms: The person may feel constantly on edge and have a heightened sense of danger:
- Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep.
- Being easily startled or feeling jumpy.
- Feeling irritable or having angry outbursts.
Hypervigilance or exaggerated startle response.
