In a previous post, I talked about WHY we experience these premenstrual mood swings, so if you didn't see that one, be sure to go back and check it out!

Here are 4 easy tips to reduce premenstrual mood swings naturally:

1️⃣ Rhodiola Rosea

🌱 This is an herb that regulates the stress response and reduces anxiety. It is recommended to take 150-300mg per day, twice daily for at least three months to see results. It's also used to improve focus, memory, and mental energy, so it's best to take in the morning rather than before bed. Speak to a pharmacist or herbalist before combining multiple herbs or herbs and pharmaceutical drugs.

2️⃣. Boost serotonin with food

Changes to estrogen and progesterone levels in the second half of your cycle influence our serotonin levels to drop. One way our body communicates what it needs to us is through cravings.

Foods with sugar and carbohydrates boost our serotonin levels, so this is why we crave them more at this time. The problem is, that chocolate bar filled with refined added sugar you're going for is not exactly what your body was asking for and will make PMS worse.

Instead, go for nutritious whole foods with natural sugar and carbs like sweet potatoes, berries, fruit, and 80-100% dark chocolate. 🍓 😋

3️⃣ S*x & Self Pleasure

Boost your feel-good happy hormones and reduce pain with some s*xy time! 😈

4️⃣ Get enough quality sleep

This is always the toughest one for me. I'm trying to be better about not using electronics close to bed time and going to bed at the same time every night😕 .

Do you feel like a slave to your cravings?⁣

When I did a live masterclass a few weeks back, I asked the participants what symptoms of hormonal imbalance they were struggling with, and cravings for sugar and carbs was the most popular!

Two years ago, it was a ritual of mine to go to the 7/11 and buy some kind of candy bar as a reward for getting through another day of the teaching job that I hated.⁣

It's funny that we've been conditioned to see sweets as a reward (thanks manipulative marketing campaigns who don't care about health only profits) when they actually make us feel so sh*tty.⁣

Everything from acne, chronic yeast infections, cramps, migraines, cravings, weight gain, fatigue, mood swings and more can have sugar as an underlying factor.⁣

I'm curious, which menstrual cycle phase do you align with the most? Which is your favorite to lean into?⁣ 🌀

The cool thing is, we can and do embody ALL of these qualities each and every month as we go through the phases of our cycle.⁣

Also, these qualities are fluid. You may not necessarily feel creative in your Follicular Phase or introspective in your Menstrual Phase, and that's perfectly alright.⁣ ❤️

👉🏾 The important thing is to track your cycle and learn about YOU.⁣

🍁 My favorite is the Luteal phase, but I wouldn't enjoy being in this energy ALL the time. I love that we can flow in and out of different archetypes based on where we're at in our cycle. ⁣
⁣I always have my most creative downloads and ideas in this phase, while also having my biggest surges of productive energy.⁣ 💡 ⚡️

☯️ It's such a nice balance of the feminine, flowy, creative energy and the masculine "doing" energy.⁣

[SAVE & SHARE] Before you grab that bag of chips, take a breath and ask your body if that's what she/he/they really needs.⁣

🤯 Long before our brains and nervous systems were overloaded with artificial chemicals, caffeine, and hormones from the food available today, we actually had the capacity to intuitively know what foods we needed to eat in order to address nutrient deficiencies. ⁣

🌀 Actually, we do still have this ability, we just have to tune in to the messages of our bodies again and re-train ourselves.⁣

Start by mindfully noticing your cravings. ⁣

👉🏾 When you're craving one of these foods in the chart, take a breath, notice what the craving feels like in your body, and then lovingly choose the healthier alternative, and see how your body responds.⁣

😌 When we do this, it soothes our nervous system, whereas when we give into the craving and continue denying our body what it really needs, it keeps us in survival mode, which is very stressful for the body.⁣

😖 Stress impacts our reproductive system (hello missing or irregular periods), immune system, cognition, and more.⁣

I’ve been sending a part of myself that has been missing lately.⁣

The more I see amazing souls like iamquynhle] , , , .etchison , and show up authentically and unapologetically in their full, sensual, fierce, wild feminine selves, it stirs something up in me and makes me realize it’s a part of myself I’ve disconnected from.⁣

I thought I was “finished” when I learned how to connect to my cycle and learn how to care for my body physically and support my hormones.⁣

Now I know that was just one step on a longer journey.⁣

I don’t even fully have the language or awareness to articulate exactly what I’m disconnected from..I guess that’s how disconnected I am.⁣

But I know these teachers have been put in my radar for a reason and I will make the effort to be in the space of more women like these and soak up their energy. ⁣😍

When we bring awareness to our wounds and heal them, we not only heal ourselves, but we heal everyone around us, everyone before us, and everyone after us.⁣

This is our true soul’s purpose.⁣

There’s nothing gross about it, and it can even have some great benefits😁⁣

But there are things to be aware of, like an increased risk of passing on STIs, and you CAN still get pregnant even while on your period.⁣

PSA: Your period doesn’t have to suck!!⁣

Ever since I’ve learned about balancing my hormones and cycle syncing, I actually look forward to getting my period.⁣

Want getting your period to feel like Christmas morning?! (or whatever day gets you excited😉)⁣

Try out these ideas!👇🏼⁣

🩸Avoid scheduling social activities during your bleed if possible⁣

😍 Make yourself an at-home “period retreat” - face masks, bath bubbles, incense, self massage, gentle yoga, nutritious food (plan and prepare this BEFORE your period)⁣

❤️ Have special “period welcoming rituals” like wearing a certain favorite comfy shirt that you only wear on this day, or use a special mug designated for this day and have some ginger tea, and play a special “period playlist” of songs that make you feel good⁣

🌿 Take a full day (or more) off social media- connect back to yourself, journaling & reflecting⁣

👉🏼 Is there anything special you do for yourself when your period comes? I’m also single AF and curious- does your partner do anything special for you? Allow me to live vicariously through you😂⁣

What is “hormone imbalance” and how do you know if your hormones are imbalanced?⁣

Man I wish I knew this stuff when I was younger!!⁣

The two most important hormones when it comes to menstrual health are Cortisol (the “stress” hormone) and Insulin (the “blood sugar hormone”). ⁣

These two, when imbalanced, cause a downstream effect on your s*x hormones which then go haywire and cause PMS, irregular cycles, painful cramps, etc.

The first signs to look out for of a hormone imbalance are:⁣
❌ Cravings for sweets, refined carbs and alcohol⁣
❌ Can’t get through the day without caffeine, energy crashes⁣
❌ Trouble falling asleep or staying asleep⁣
❌ Mood swings from weepy to hangry and everywhere in between⁣

In today’s world, most of us are just offered a pill to completely shut off our hormones, rather than addressing the root cause of the problem.⁣

If you want to truly heal, ask yourself these questions👇🏼⁣

😴 Are you getting 7-9 hours of quality sleep every night?⁣
☕️🍸Are you drinking too much caffeine or alcohol?⁣
💩 Are you having digestion issues like constipation, bloating or heart burn?⁣
🙇🏽‍♀️ Are you regularly stressed out and over extending yourself? Do you make time for rest and relaxation?⁣
🏃🏽‍♀️ Are you exercising too much, or not enough?⁣
🧴 Are you using conventional cleaning products, make up and personal care products filled with toxic chemicals? Are you buying organic when you can?⁣
🥬 Are you getting a variety of whole fruits, veggies, grains, beans, nuts and seeds on your plate?⁣

[SAVE] I challenge you to eat more mindfully this week!⁣

But how?!🤓⁣

1️⃣ Choose one meal a day to eat mindfully if you’re just starting out⁣

2️⃣ Before eating, consider how you’re feeling. Are you truly hungry? Or are you thirsty, stressed, bored, rushed? If you notice you are having these negative feelings, ask yourself, “Is there something more helpful/loving I could do for myself right now?”

3️⃣ Put away your phone, turn off the TV and even the podcast so you can really tune in.

4️⃣ Keep serving bowls/plates and leftovers off the table. This can reduce the chance of going for unnecessary leftovers and keeps the focus on the plate in front of you.⁣

5️⃣ If you have trouble with overeating, eat with a smaller plate or bowl to help you eat an appropriate amount and not feel like you’re depriving yourself⁣

6️⃣ Chew slowly, taking 20-30 bites and indulge all senses in the experience. Notice the colors, textures, flavors and smells. Put your utensil down between each bite to really savor it.⁣

7️⃣ Appreciate from farm to plate. Consider the journey that the ingredients of your meal took to end up on your plate. Imagine all the animals and people involved from the farmers, to the truck drivers, to the grocery store workers or chefs and express gratitude for all the energy that went into having this meal. ⁣

If you find yourself eating in a rush because you’re SO hungry all the time, it’s likely cuz your blood sugar is not stable. ⁣
