Happy Tuesday!

For those of you new to the Dripping Springs area, or new to this page, I’d like to introduce Code 1 Concierge Care.

My name is Dr. Peter Cashio, and I am a US Marine Corps veteran and the owner/founder of Code 1 Concierge Care, located right here in Dripping Springs.

I started this practice because I got tired of seeing ER patients show up with conditions that could have and should have been managed by their primary care physicians.

At Code 1 Concierge, I offer truly holistic Primary Care, Men’s and Women’s Health, as well as mental, nutritional, and fitness wellness programs.

I’ve also worked very hard so that Code 1 patients enjoy easy referrals and collaboration with our extensively vetted partnerships & collaborations:

• 3 different local mental health practices
• Solutions Pharmacy
• Dr. Charles Bailey, MD, FSCAI - HEART Austin (Cardiology)
• Dr. Nima Amjadi, MD FACC - HEART Austin (Cardiology)
• Dr. Brian Allen, MD - HEART Austin (Cardiology)
• Dr. Josh Lindstrom, DC - WellSport Rehabilitative care
• Dr. Daniel Carrasco, MD - Sanova Dermatology
• Dr. Brenda Watkins, MD - Southwest Dermatology and Vein
• Dr. Lauren Ash, MD - General Surgery
• Dr. Andrea George, MD - Hill Country Endocrinology
• Dr. Taylor Jobe, MD - Orthopedics/Hand Surgery
• Drs. Grayson & Dustin Moore, MD - Legacy Bone & Joint (Orthopedics)
• Kethley Physical Therapy - Physical Therapy
• Dr. Paul Pickrell, MD - Rheumatology
• Dr. Adam Hafemeister, MD - Austin Gastroenterology

Myself and my staff (Sandra, Rebecca RN, and Janine RN) are super grateful for the community support which we’ve received over the past 4 years. It continues to be an honor to serve the community. :)

To help more members of the community, I’m excited to announce that we’re bringing on our second physician - Dr. Zach Patrick (https://www.code1concierge.com/meet-dr-patrick).

Catching up on 2 days worth of posts. New running shoes (Altra Lonepeak 7s- thanks to Tanner Boyd for the advice!), and a sports chiro eval rounded out the days. Shoutout to who’s also doing this challenge! It’s begins and ends in the mind, y’all.

It’s world mental health day, and I’d encourage anyone to combat the sadness, anxiety, etc which plagues all humans with movement. Movement stimulates dopamine release and has been shown overwhelmingly to positively improve mental health….In other news: Great day amidst life’s slings and arrows. 1 mile PB of 12:15, which beat last week’s 12:25 PB. Not trying to do it but nonetheless. My gal came through with the killer metal spin ride. Next goal: a Zwift setup because why not? Weather sure helps with the running.

So, 75 Hard Day 39/75 is complete. ⬇️18 lbs since the start of this challenge. Great weather (“Texas Autumn” 😂 -Thanks Marc!) and strong lifting. Got a new bit of kit- the Salomon ADV Skin 12 trail vest. Can’t wait to try it out in the morning. Thanks to for the motivation links. Like says, “Be above average.” (Don’t understand the donut obsession though). 😂 Cheers!

75 Hard Day 38/75 done. It’s just a thing that you do at this point. Working on my “barefoot “ or natural running form and also trying to keep my HR relatively lower, which means more walking at this point. Salomovn running vest arrives tomorrow. Going to try running in the morning and beating the heat. And

Day 35. This was a tough one because I’m not specifically training for a race. So one of the principles is days zone to training which for me means keeping my heart rate under 140 which is really tough right now the last mile I picked up my son, and we kind of walked, still it’s done. Been super inspired by (Mark Lewis). Check out his YouTube channel. Running vest incoming, and a “Yeah, why not?” attitude for the win.

I love taking care of patients and helping them navigate the crazy so-called US “Health care system.” It is what myself and my staff do and we take immense pride and joy in the task.

BACKGROUND: I was recently interviewed by Dr. Maryal Concepción of the My DPC Story Podcast. It was a blast and an honor. :)

Recently, one of my lovely patients posted the below info on her page, and this is posted with her permission.

"Dr. Peter Cashio is my Direct Primary Care (DPC) at Code1Concierge. I didn't really share with anyone that I was hospitalized for 10 days this past summer with some pretty acute critical care issues. He recognized these issues and that's why I'm still here now sharing this with you.

If you've ever considered seeing a DPC, Dr. Cashio is your guy. Thoughtful, caring, extremely easy to talk to and my #1 want/need was ACCESSIBILITY to my doctor. It's inexpensive and provides me with a lot of peace of mind. Check out his clinic for yourself, family, or small business. I think you'll be shocked at what he can provide!

Here's his latest podcast that explains who he is and why he went the route of DPC right here in our good 'ole hometown of Dripping Springs."

Day 30/75 completed. Nearly died (I keed!) on tonight’s workout…yet it only one kJ off my best effort with a7% reduction in Zone 4 HR time. Cardio fitness plus vegan diet?! An accountability group is key to getting it done, plus staying creative with my workouts. Another key is developing a repertoire of go-to activities for when boredom sets in. Thank goodness for the peloton bike and for lots of high energy workouts.

Day 25/75 COMPLETE. Vegan nutrition continues to be amazing overall and super conducive to endurance and power: today I completed a “moderate” 45 min ride on Peloton and was just shy of my best output and power. Joints are slowly becoming accustomed to the running and cycling.

I saw this a few years ago and thought it was worth re-posting. Essentially the argument is that even the pros don’t work out at 100% hard-core every workout. Rather, they focus on getting daily reps at 70 to 80% max, and you ens up training more frequently, with less injury, and with more rapid mastery. I think it’s worth a watch. https://youtu.be/_fbCcWyYthQ?si=YQF9fsaNpR_WoO5X

It’s not that your doctor doesn’t care about you. Rather, most physicians are overwhelmed by Hospital systems, Private Equity ownership, and the corporate practice of medicine demanding MORE - visits per day, more check boxing, more “quality “metrics.” You are NOT a metric, are you? That’s why I created Code 1 Concierge Care: to help you and to save myself from leaving medicine altogether. Plus getting to work out every day. 😃💪🏻Tune in to hear more.

day 10 in the books. 6 AM barefoot running with the nine year old, followed by a solid semi-outdoor lunchtime weightlifting workout, followed by follow up walk to get in my total minutes. Challenges today: no AC at home, packed clinic schedule, 8th grader’s opening football game. ……There will ALWAYS be daily obstacles! Just get it done and stop making excuses already. 😃 ….Still 💯 ! Keeping me going: inspiration from friends, patients and members of the community. You guys are all amazing. Humbled to know y’all.

Day 2 yesterday. (I missed one workout Sunday). 2 x hardcore workouts plus learning how to barefoot run with my son Jude. * Week 9 of transitioning to wholly plant-powered. * Energy and endurance are already better than it’s been in at least 5 years. Today’s motto: “Why not?”

Let’s talk about weight loss! It is not as taboo as it once seemed to be!

There is a trend happening right now that people are more aware of their own health - Taking accountability of their own health! Taking strides towards making better decisions and choices each day! Small steps can make a huge impact!

“Even modest weight loss can mean big benefits.

Even a modest weight loss of 5% to 10% of your total body weight is likely to produce health benefits, such as improvements in blood pressure, blood cholesterol, and blood sugars.

For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, a 5% weight loss is 10 pounds, bringing your weight down to 190 pounds.

While this weight may still be in the “overweight” or “obesity” range, this modest weight loss can decrease your risk for chronic diseases related to obesity.

So even if the overall goal seems large, see it as a journey rather than a final destination.”

It doesn’t happen overnight, so just accept that! Take the journey step by step. In fact, steady and gradual weight loss is actually the key to really keeping it off for the long haul.

How to make it feel and be real?
-Aim to lose about 1 to 2 pounds per week.
-Cut out something small that is "bad" for you– for example, drink 2 sodas per day? Cut back to 1. If you drink sweet tea, mix half sweet with half unsweet and work your way towards all unsweet tea.
-Try to power walk 3 times per week for 30 minutes each time.

Those 3 things seem do-able! Small steps can make a huge impact! Even if you don’t immediately see it externally, your internal organs will thank you.
