Just completed a neck surgery for bone spurs. Dr. Dryer did a fantastic job with great follow up. It was performed at West Lake hospital on Bee Cave Road in Austin. The hospital and staff were fantastic and attentive. Great experience. It was my second surgery with Dr. Dryer. My first was in 2006. It was back surgery and too was a Great experience. Thanks Dr. Dryer.
😀

.
Dr. Dryer performed my spinal fusion late October 2018 and I am feeling fantastic!! I finally have relief from 5 years of back pain. I recommended him to my sister and he performed her neck surgery and this is the first time in 6 years that she has relief from her pain. Dr. Dryer is also helping my Mother who is 85 to help ease her pain from 2 other surgeries from other back doctors that unfortunately messed her up. Dr. Dryer is a wonderful surgeon and as you can see, I trust him with not only myself, but my family too! I can't recommend him enough!! 👍👍👍
I have had three back surgeries. The previous two were with Dr. Dryer. I am challenged with Degenerative Disc Disease, and will require more surgeries as time goes on. Each surgery I had with Dr. Dryer was extremely sucessful. Now, almost eight years after my last surgery, I still consider my decision to become a patient at CTSI an excellent decision. I haved had absolutely no issues with the surgery sites. Dr. Dryer and his staff are professional, caring and the best at what they do. I highly recommend them for your care.
At 68 years old I couldn't stand up and walk. I had terrible pain in my legs from a pinched nerve. Dr. Dryers surgery gave me life back. It's been 6 weeks since my surgery and I'm back walking 3 miles every morning and riding my bicycle. It was the right decision and the right doctor.
Had surgery one week ago on my pinched nerve. It was causing me pain in my left leg and lower back making life miserable. But since surgery, no more pain (except at incision) and I feel really good. Thanks to a great doctor and staff for getting me through the hard part.

An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is an outpatient procedure indicated to treat your condition. This procedure consists of injecting cortisone and saline into the space around your spinal canal called the epidural space.

The dura is the thin lining that contains the spinal fluid and nerves. The epidural space is the area or space between this fluid filled sac and the bones of the vertebrae. Our goal is to place the tip of the needle near the sac, but not into it. If the needle is placed in the fluid-filled sac (through the dura), we have performed a spinal tap.

The injection is usually performed in the lumbar area at the level of the waist or belt line. If difficulty is encountered in that area, we sometimes place the needle lower at the end of the spine near the tailbone.

While the two medical terms are similar, it’s spondylolysis which leads to spondylolisthesis. Both conditions mentioned commonly cause low back pain in younger athletes.

Spondylolysis is a stress fracture occurring in one of the vertebrae. This condition usually affects adolescents and even children who are involved in sports which exert pressure on the lumbar (lower spine). For example, weightlifting, football, and gymnastics.
On Spondylolisthesis, the fractured vertebra involved becomes weakened to the point it’s unable to maintain its normal position. This causes it to slip or shift. It’s this slip or shift which results from the spondylolysis (fracture).

Spinal Cord Stimulation is a procedure created to relieve the chronic pain that most treatments failed to overcome. It utilizes a tiny device and wires that emit electrical signals to your brain, effectively masking the pain you feel in your lower body. It’s not a complicated procedure, but the thought of installing a device on your body that can affect electrical impulses is scary for some people.

An epidural steroid injection (ESI) is an outpatient procedure indicated to treat your condition. This procedure consists of injecting cortisone and saline into the space around your spinal canal called the epidural space. This procedure is most easily, comfortably and accurately performed if a fluoroscope is used to visualize the needle placement. A fluoroscope is an x-ray machine that allows us to see motion while we place the needle. For this reason, we perform epidural injections at the hospital where a fluoroscope is available.

What are indications I may need a Lateral Lumbar Interbody Fusion (LLIF) spinal surgery?
When considering the indications for lumbar spine fusion, low back pain that lasts for more than six months is the most general indication.

The indications for fusing the vertebrae of the low back occur primarily in situations where there is a large deformity, such as:
- Mechanical back pain (usually attributed to disc degeneration)
- Spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal)
- Recurrent disc herniation
- Fractures
- Tumors
- Degenerative scoliosis
- Spinal instability (spondylolisthesis)
- Revision of total disc replacement
