Where do you receive your inspiration, insight & lessons from?

I get a lot of mine from nature — trees, flowers, clouds, water… even my houseplants.

What I’ve learned lately:

1. It’s okay to change my mind when I’ve taken on too much — it’s an act of self love to make adjustments when I better understand my needs & capacity. (I went from 8 plants down to 4 this year) 🥹

2. When it’s time to grow & expand, it will look and feel like things are breaking apart. Don’t panic! (This is the 4th pot my firstborn rubber tree has inhabited in our short 3 years together… each new pot came b/c the previous one broke!) 😅

3. Look past what’s in front of you & observe how decay + regrowth coexist in perfect balance. (Many of the leaves have scars & breaks… but she keeps growing) 🌱

That feels nice, doesn’t it? 💖

I’ve used all sorts of affirmations over the years.

Some about money, some about my self-worth, others about who I am and what I’m here to do.

I found these specific ones, as they relate to my human design type — a projector.

It can feel hard to know what we are meant to do & who we are meant to be, and for that reason… what we need to AFFIRM within ourselves.

If you read these, you’ll get a taste for the areas within myself that feel like challenges. 🥲

It’s helpful to remember that we are conscious, powerful beings — and we all have an important role to play in this great web of life.

When we accept that our perspective & thoughts influence our experience of reality, it’s easier to understand why affirming ourselves is so helpful. And powerful!

We are the only ones who can offer this level of acceptance & love. Especially when we feel lost, confused, out of place or directionless.

I’m here to be a guide. To help others navigate their path & step into their own alignment.

Reminding myself of that every day helps me move through the world feeling connected… and like ME!✨

Don’t you love it when things don’t go to plan? 😆 *A Biz Update*

2022 was like that for me. There wasn’t one thing that happened the way I planned.

I spent a good deal of that time in a state of sympathetic overwhelm — fighting, freezing, flighting, fawning.

I stopped taking new clients & did only what was needed - nothing extra.

And in that span of 8 months… so much happened!

I learned a lot about myself.
The beliefs that eroded my self trust.
The looping mental stories that kept me dysregulated.
The deep yearning for peace, ease, fulfillment & joy.

I faced the part of me that’s always believed “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE” — and asked through wails & tears, “Are you fu***ng sure?”

Amidst the questions & confusion, I kept showing up.

As layers of compassion & courage compounded, I felt peace about serving once again. Hello, 2023.

As you know, I launched the program that combined my 1-on-1 therapeutic yoga expertise with my desire to connect a like-minded community:

✨The Conscious Asana Blueprint✨

Then something crazy happened…

Private client inquiries started coming out of the woodwork.

One after another — people seeking out my guidance & expertise.

People interested in the group program have shared that the time just isn’t right yet.

So these past weeks of reflection have shown me this:
While IT IS time for me to serve, it will look different than what I had planned.

I’m going to focus on my 1-on-1 work a little longer.
I’m going to develop some ‘behind the scenes’ projects.

And in May 2023, The Conscious Asana Blueprint will start it’s inaugural cohort! 🎉

I’ve been moving through a lot in my personal life, business life, & larger community life in the last two months.

I’ve taken space from actively “social media’ing” & tried to more deeply connect to my own essence.

Who is Anna? What does she like to talk about? What does she love to do? What gets her excited?

And I’ve made it a priority to disconnect from what I can DO (read: produce) — and make space for what I can RECEIVE.

I’ve tapped into the things that fill me up the most. I’m learning how to build them into my week. I’m giving myself small gifts every single day.

A cup of black coffee.
A beautiful bike ride.
Swimming in fresh water pools. Showering naked in an outdoor locker room.
Stretching in the grass.
Staring at clouds.
Meeting new friends.
Eating a deeply nourishing meal.

Everything I do — I want it to come from a place of joy, abundance, generosity, excitement, compassion, love, authenticity, fulfillment & connection.

Inevitably, this space to receive has opened me up in new ways — and shown me what I want to GIVE, too.

My voice - in an community choir.

My energy - volunteering my services to non-profits in my area.

My time - committing to continued higher education to help me further my path of service.

My expertise - to my future clients who want to learn how to strengthen their connection to themselves in a deeply nourishing way. **more on this soon**

This is a gentle reminder that just because you CAN… does not mean you MUST.

Discernment, or in Sanskrit, Viveka (विवेक) is a skill that gives us back our autonomy & power.

How can you practice discernment in your life this week?

1️⃣ When you feel anger or frustration bubbling up inside of you, pause & breathe — will my outburst help or harm myself or others?

2️⃣ When a new task or obstacle presents itself — am I really the only person who can address this, or am I just taking on more work to make myself feel important?

3️⃣ This negative feeling I have toward this other person — is this really about them, or is there something that is trying to be reflected back for me?

These examples show how you can use your own discernment: pausing before you react, pausing before you add more stress to your life, pausing to learn something about yourself when you feel the negativity bubble up inside.

Discernment sets us free from the burden of others & allows us to be more conscious about what we do with our own energy.

Once upon a time, there was a young college student at a TOMS warehouse sale.

She spotted a pair of beautiful sunglasses (valued $150) & snagged them for $30.

It was the first time she had actually bought something *really* nice for herself. (Even if she didn’t spend the full amount on the shades, she knew what they were WORTH!)

And so for the next 5 years, she’d take great care of them.

From everyday activities to life-changing adventures, these sunglasses were there. Ready to protect her eyes & keep her looking cute AF.

She’d repaired them multiple times over the years b/c she loved them so much! She took pride in knowing that they were one-of-a-kind at this point.

Then one day she hopped on a bike and put the glasses in their case - like she always did. She placed them gently into the bike’s basket.

As she rode along the trail, she didn’t have a care in the world!

She rode 2 miles down the trail before realizing that the sunglasses were gone.

She turned around frantically & rode ALL the way back - retracing her steps in the hopes of finding her beloved shades.

Unfortunately, they were nowhere to be found.

Of all the close calls over the years of misplacing the shades… this time, they were gone for good.

The sadness & anger flooded her mind & body instantly. She felt as though she had lost part of herSELF.

This item that she had looked after, kept safe, & fixed multiple times- gone in a moment.

After a few hours of sulking, she realized that those glasses represented her journey over the last five years.

And she wasn’t that young woman anymore who needed to be looked after, saved or fixed.

So the next day she spent $125 on a pair of sunglasses worth $250.

Then she smiled b/c she realized something else…

She was now stepping into her next phase: BOUGIE, UNAPOLOGETIC SELF-LOVE

A reminder to:

- show up for yourself each day, as best as you can

- start before you feel “ready”

- show love & respect to your beautiful body

- appreciate each win as it comes in… don’t hold off celebrating

- drink plenty of water

- ask for the support you need

- eat some fruits & vegetables this week

- set up an adult play date

- move your body in ways that make you smile & give you those excited feels

- sit with your feelings when they come up

- cook or bake yourself something to eat

- say NO when your gut tells you to

- voice the boundary that feels scary

- tell the people you love that you LOVE them

- meditate when you’d rather scroll your feed for 5 minutes

- take big, full, mood-altering breaths

- make that phone call

- get high

- question ever rule that you cite for why you “can’t” do something

- witness the sunset

- snuggle your fur babies… I mean really shove your face in there

- do the thing

What Your Doctor Isn’t Telling You About Chronic Pain 

When you see your doctor about your pain or injury – did they suggest one of the following? 
1️⃣ Pain Medication
2️⃣ Surgery/ies 
3️⃣ Just rest & wait it out… 

I thought so.

If you opt for medication, then you’re reliant on pharmaceutical substances for relief – & the underlying cause of your pain is ignored.

If you opt for surgery, you could end up with more physical complications. (As many surgical interventions are overly invasive and unnecessary) And no, I’m not talking about situations where surgery is the *only* option. 

If you opt to rest & wait it out… you walk around babying the area, never feeling confident in using it for fear of making the injury worse! (Or maybe you go back to activity once the pain subsides… and definitely make it worse.)

This is how pain becomes CHRONIC. 

Where it is consistent, recurring, and difficult to eradicate. 

So what isn’t your doctor telling you? 

Well, they’re not telling you what they don’t know. 

And that is that many injuries and chronic pain issues can be relieved without medication or surgery. Just you and your body.

Yep, that’s right! 🤓

Doctors learn SO MUCH in their training – but unfortunately, body mechanics aren’t a big part of that training. (Neither is nutrition… but that’s a topic for another day) 

Here’s the truth: you have all the tools that you need to heal your own body.

It’s all about finding the right guide. ✨

Something I’d thought I’d NEVER do again (that I just DID):

Lead a group of obstacle course racing (OCR) hopefuls through a wall climbing technique session. 

The OG’s around this page know that OCR was my first true love in movement. 😎💪🔥

Doing what I do now, it seems almost absurd that I would ever volunteer myself to do something like this again!

As a therapeutic yoga teacher, I empower people to find healing.

Not hurt themselves! 😂

Then I thought about it.

Why am I making the assumption that OCR only hurts people?

I realized that I used to blame OCR for my injuries and problems. In telling my story over the years, I’ve painted OCR as a vice that kept me from truly dealing with the deeper issues in my life.

But upon reflection something else has become much clearer:

OCR helped me overcome a lot of obstacles in my real life, that at the time I needed help with.

My experience coaching & running OCR molded me into the type of coach, leader, guide & human that I am today.

Those events back then gave me the gift of self confidence that I could BE, DO, and HAVE ANYTHING I wanted!

And THAT is healing. ✨

Moving Through An Anxious High

We all get high for different reasons.

You might do it to help you fall asleep, to stimulate your appetite after being sick, to wind down after a long day at work, to elevate your yoga practice, or make whatever it is you’re doing a *little* bit more exciting.

But perhaps after ingesting, you start to feel antsy….

Your mind begins to wander and race. You feel sensations throughout your body. You sense anxiety creeping in.

What was initially an attempt to ease your mind and body has suddenly catapulted you in the opposite direction.

But why did this happen? And how can you prevent it in the future?

(B/c we both know this isn’t the first time this has happened. And it probably won’t be the last.)

I want to share with you a few things you can do when you find yourself in the thick of it. (B/c becoming “un-high” ain’t an option)

1. Close your eyes & take a few deep breaths. Your body is trying to communicate with you - & you can only listen if you slow down & get present.

2. Grab your journal & write, “What do I need to know right now?” This is a Q you’re presenting to your subconscious. Let yourself free-write for +/- a few minutes, see what comes up. Resist forcing anything, just let the thoughts & words flow. 

3. Get into your body. Whether this is on your yoga mat, taking a walk outside, or dancing! Anxious energy in the body is best dispelled through movement.

This is where I would start. 

If you find that you usually just sit there all anxious, or go to sleep b/c it feels like you can’t do anything else… then give this a try! 

Sometimes, what you need to know is BIG. And sometimes, what you need to know is NOT big. 

But if you never ask, you’ll never know, and your body will continue to signal for your attention.

So be BRAVE - & give yourself that attention. You deserve this. 💛
