Let’s talk about that pesky blood pressure climbing up and why that can be a risk! February is American Heart Awareness Month!

“High blood pressure is also known as hypertension. It happens when the force of your blood pushing against the walls of your blood vessels is too high. How scary is this?!?! According to the American Heart Association, “Nearly half of U.S. adults have high blood pressure. Many don’t even know they have it.”

The thing about high blood pressure is it is known as the "silent killer" because it usually has no noticeable symptoms… People can have high blood pressure for a long time without realizing it, which can lead to serious health complications like heart attacks and strokes if left untreated.

If you haven’t had your blood pressure checked recently by your primary care doctor or your cardiologist, it is time.

An AWESOME patient case with Dr. Allen! Check it out below:

59 year old male

Came into our practice as a referral from an Oncologist for suspected clotting in the leg

Patient was put on blood thinners in an attempt to dissolve the clot but still experienced pain and swelling in his leg

The patient underwent Venous Thrombectomy to remove the clot and was found to have compression of both of his iliac veins of 80% - this means that there was only about 20% of blood flow/drainage

This required venous stents to restore proper blood flow/drainage to the legs

It was a success! Patient is feeling MUCH better and has adequate and proper blood flow through the leg!

Way to go Dr. Allen and thank you for putting patient care first!
