Instructor Spotlight
The 2023 Convention will feature instructors who are well known leaders in the
field of professional massage. These dynamic instructors are specialists in their
topic and nationally certified.
We offer a spotlight for each instructor so you can get to know them before
attending the convention.
FOCUS ON: Christina Montes de Oca
Christina Montes de Oca, LMT RAIO-B, RAPO-B is a Registered Advanced
Instructor and Practitioner of Ortho-Bionomy®. Since the mid-90’s her ongoing
education has included learning about the effects of trauma in the nervous
system in the context of bodywork.
Christina has traveled nationally and internationally to teach; she co-founded
the Ortho-Bionomy Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner Programs at the
New Mexico Academy of Healing Arts (1999-2010). She currently maintains a
private practice in Santa Fe, NM.
CLASS DESCRIPTION:
The Biological Model of Trauma describes normal physiological responses to
high stress events and threats that exceed our available capacity to respond In
practice, massage therapists and bodyworkers can encounter the residual effects of high stress/traumatic events that still affect the nervous system and
impact healing. Gaining some knowledge of the model through both lecture
and simple somatic exercises can bring valuable perspective and additional
resources for clients and practitioners.
