2023 Physician Frist Humanitarian Award - Congratulations Dr. Joey Romero!

Dr. Romero with St. David's Hip and Knee is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and currently serves as the vice chairman of the orthopedic department at St. David’s Medical Center. He has authored many publications and earned research awards and grants for his expertise in robotic and computer-assisted joint replacements. He has also presented his research nationally and internationally.
Dr. Romero has received numerous awards and recognition for his achievements in research, education, clinical and surgical patient care. In 2023, he was named a Texas Super Doctors ® Rising Stars℠. In 2020, he was presented the Otto Aufranc Award from the Hip Society as well as the Lance Peters Award from the Hospital for Special Surgery.
Dr. Romero tailors his treatment plans to focus on each patient’s individual needs that will ultimately improve their quality of life. His research, outcomes and awards put his patients at ease when they are under his care.
Dr. Romero’s care and compassion extend into our great community by providing instruction and mentorship to young surgeons in training at Dell Medical School and internationally, by participating in medical mission trips with Operation Walk. Most recently, Dr. Romero traveled to El Salvador to complete multiple joint replacements for the community in need.
