Hats off to all the lesson horses out there

Some horses hold on to tension with the fear of “the unknown” if they let go. I believe in the instinct of bracing that keeps a lot of horses in a chronic space of tension. Teaching a horse to take that leap of faith and letting go has been one of my favorite experiences in equine body work. It has a ripple effect into everything else they do. Letting go becomes almost addictive. And the body and brain melt into a calm, low frequency. So beautiful to witness.

This is the second horse that I have rehabbed in these cloud boots, the first one, Rodger, has graduated to his easyshoe versa glue ons and has had a completely life changing journey. Both horses are getting a new chance at comfort and I am so so grateful to this company for investing in all of the horses that deserve comfort and freedom in movement.

How do you feel about this? Would you rather wait for the skeleton to fully develop or get a foundation of skills on a young horse but risk the skeletal integrity for them long term? In this example we can see that the vertebrae of a horse isn’t fully mature until 6 years old. Out of all of the horses I have worked on, the most common issue I come across is spinal tension and nerves being pinched in the SI and lumbar joints. This feels important to remember. Being patient and letting a horse fully develop will help both parties in the long run.
