Did you know your body has kept a score of stress over the span of your life? Your stressors directly impact your mineral levels as the body greatly depletes magnesium, sodium, potassium and other minerals during times of “stress”.
Stress isn’t just what happens at work or during your “busy season”. Your body has the option to feel and respond to stress every day at any given moment. The body can read any of these things as stressors, release stress hormones and start a domino effect of negative symptoms and hormonal imbalance.
When the body is in a state of stress we may see things such as irregular thyroid function, irregular cycles, trouble getting pregnant, extreme PMS, trouble sleeping, increased anxiety, hirsutism (hair on the chin, chest, breasts and also acne and thinning hair on your head), heavy painful periods and many other symptoms.

My personal testimony of how useful magnesium can be has made me such an advocate for this powerful mineral. Insomnia during pregnancy is very common, but after implementing magnesium supplementation during my pregnancy I slept solid through the night until birth. Incredible!
Magnesium supports nearly every metabolic pathway. It has 600+ roles in enzymatic reactions in the body including muscle relation, supporting absorption of other minerals, blood sugar regulation, immune function, cellular energy metabolism, protein synthesis, and more.
Unfortunately our soils that have been the main source of magnesium for centuries, are no longer a good supplier of this mineral.
There are several forms of magnesium which absorb and function differently. Talk to your practitioner to find out which form is best for you.

Calcium is necessary for healthy bones and teeth, muscle contractions, regulating heart rhythms, nerve function, enzyme and hormone activity, and more. Needs double during pregnancy. If you ask me, thats just one of the incredible ways real milk can support a healthy pregnancy.
Calcium is the most abundant mineral in the body, but many people appear deficient with frail bones, brittle teeth, irritated gums, extreme fatigue, muscle cramps, etc. Our standard American diets lack the essential nutrients needed for calcium absorption such as vitamin D, vitamin K2, and magnesium. Interestingly, dairy contains these supportive nutrients. These can and should be a major focus of lifestyle, diet and supplementation. An HTMA is a great way to see if your body is properly absorbing calcium!
If dairy is not currently an option, a homemade egg shell powder can be well absorbed and utilized by the body.

Nourishing Swaps - Coconut Water! 🥥
Potassium is needed to balance sodium in the body. We need nearly 4x more potassium than sodium, but unfortunately most Americans do not consume enough potassium in their daily diet. This has shown in symptoms such has high blood pressure, fatigue, nausea, and muscle weakness. Too little potassium is a recipe for adrenal fatigue and thyroid disorders.
Adequate potassium intake can improve hydration, regulate bowel movements, skin dryness, blood glucose, insulin sensitivity, blood pressure, mood, anxiety, depression, muscle cramps, etc.
Signs of deficiency can include heart palpitations, dizziness, high blood pressure, tingling, headaches, constipation, bloating, swelling, exhaustion, etc.

Nourishing Swaps - Salt!🧂
.
I know, I know! But arent we supposed to decrease out salt intake? Salt has gotten a bad rap in the past with “low salt” diets, but it’s a critically important mineral and electrolyte. Sodium helps keep water in the body, and is responsible for muscle and nerve function. Salt also provides a load of trace minerals that most people do not get from a standard American diet.

Conventional table salt, like what you get at any restaurant or in packaged foods, is highly processed and depleted of nearly all trace minerals.
.
My personal favorite brand is !I use this brand because it’s minimally processed, contains 60+ trace minerals, and has no questionable additives! Plus, it enhances the flavor of your cooking.
A balance of sodium and potassium is crucial for electrolyte balance.
Some Functions of sodium in pregnancy:
- Salt supports normal stomach acid levels (via chloride). This is necessary for the absorption of minerals and vitamins, protein digestion, and killing off pathogenic bacteria. During pregnancy, digestion can shift and acid reflux is common. Sodium is necessary to ease indigestion.
- Important for insulin sensitivity. Balanced blood sugar is key for stable energy and decreasing nausea during pregnancy.
- Fuels adrenals. Pregnancy is a huge stressor and can be very taxing on the adrenals. Optimal hydration should be prioritized.
- Maintains fluid leveled necessary for adequate amniotic fluid.
