Today we're shining a spotlight on Mary!
Mary is a very dynamic person. She was always one to be involved in things around her that she found important or interesting. She grew up as a Girl Scout and stayed with the organization in adulthood, serving in an administrative support role. Her daughters were also Girl Scouts, of course. She grew up in Lockhart, TX, and in high school, she played trombone in the marching band and was on the swim team. She went on to receive her Masterβs Degree from Southwest Texas Teachers College in San Marcos, Texas, the same university President Johnson attended.
After she married, she moved to Dickinson and was still very active in the Girl Scouts. For four summers, the City League and Senior Girl Scouts held a two-week day camp where Mary Faye was a W.S.I., Water Safety Instructor. She taught senior scouts canoeing. She also served as the Clear Creek Swim Team Organization President and organized diving meets and other activities. In this capacity, Mary Faye also taught lifeguards. Along with these exceptional service projects, she was involved with church groups, an award-winning garden club, the Historical Committee, and much more.
Mary moved back to Lockhart and continued her community involvement there, particularly on the Historical Committee. She is a person who believes if one can make a difference, they should. She was a founding member of the Democrats of Caldwell County and recently received recognition and honor from Lloyd Doggett and the Texas Democratic Party. Furthermore, she was given an inscribed gavel and a letter from Senator Lloyd Doggett, where she is honored for her βcommitment to civic engagement, historical preservation, and public service.β
Mary has always been βa mover and a shaker,β and we are so excited to have her as part of our Beckett Meadows Family.
